Swindon Town have sent a position-based inquiry to agents up and down the EFL looking for a new number nine, seemingly indicating the imminent departure of Jake Young, sources have informed Look Sports Media.

Robins fans had been hopeful of keeping loanee pair Jake Young and Dan Kemp, however, moves in the transfer window have seemingly indicated that the former (at least) is expected to leave in the coming days. Several agents for players have been contacted to ask if any strikers on their books are available and if there would be interest in a move to Swindon Town, a common practice as clubs look to build their transfer list ahead of the window opening. At present it is thought that the club are still narrowing down their options, but a new striker is a key target for Michael Flynn as he looks to potentially replace Young.

Young joined the club on loan from Bradford City under manager Mark Hughes, however, with the Manchester United legend having been replaced by Graham Alexander, it is likely he would like to bring one of the league’s top scorers back to Valley Parade. There has also been interest from League Two and League One in potentially purchasing the player, but the cards are firmly in the Bantam’s hands. The loanee has been the fourth tier’s top scorer for much of the season scoring 16 goals in 24 league games, having only recently been overtaken by Notts County’s Macaulay Langstaff.

What the future holds for Dan Kemp remains to be seen. His favoured position at MK Dons is currently occupied by former Swindon Town player Jack Payne, who has no break clause in his contract. New Dons manager Mike Williamson is understood to be an admirer of the player and could look to bring him back to form a creative duo which would be the envy of many in the league. There is also understood to be some interest from elsewhere, as clubs assess whether to purchase him. Fans took to social media last night to draw conclusions based on Kemp’s celebration and a post by teammate Charlie Austin, with many believing it proved he was either leaving or staying dependent on their own thoughts.

Writer’s View

I think with how these two performed it was inevitable that at least one of them would be recalled, especially with their parent clubs both changing managers. Alexander and Williamson would be foolish to not at least consider bringing arguably the best creative player and one of this season’s most prolific goalscorers back into their sides as they continue to turn around their team’s fortunes.
