Exclusive: Update on Doncaster Rovers Pursuit of Lincoln City Star Rob Street

League One Doncaster Rovers have been linked with a shock move for former loanee and Lincoln City forward Rob Street as the window approaches its conclusion. However, sources close to the Imps have provided an update exclusively to The Football Deck.

Street departed the LNER stadium mid way through the 24/25 season after a difficult start. The 23-year-old linked up with Doncaster Rovers, where he impressed in League Two helping them to the title. His 12 goals in 24 appearances gained him praise from his manager Grant McCann before his return to his parent club.

Lincoln have since integrated him back into the first team, starting him in five out of the six games to date. Street has contributed two assists and an a goal so far this season, often from the wing rather than up front.

However, despite his return to Michael Skubala’s plans, reports emerged earlier this week from SportsBoom that Doncaster Rovers were plotting for a return before Monday’s deadline. This was met with expected scepticism from Lincoln City fans, however it didn’t stop more reputable publications from picking up the news including the Yorkshire Post. The latter article even went so far as to provide quotes from Grant McCann on a possible forward incoming.

“Yeah, I think we’re close. I think it’s been agreed and it’s just obviously dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s at this moment in time.”

Lincoln City Planning for Big Future with Rob Street Despite Doncaster Rovers Links

The Football Deck approached sources close to Lincoln City to assess the validity of the news.

It was revealed that the Imps are planning for a “big season” with Rob Street in the squad, and that they would be “absolutely amazed” if there was an approach from Doncaster Rovers as their plans have been made clear from the beginning.

With the player still on a long contract and clearly in the manager’s long term plans it is highly unlikely that he will be departing before Monday’s deadline.

Lincoln City have a strong track record of nurturing young forward talent, with Jovon Makama recently moving to the Championship in a seven figure deal. Freddie Draper has also returned this season in fine form after admitting he has had to make lifestyle changes this season. Young loan player Okoronkwo also picked up the club’s man of the match against Burton Albion.

Whilst at this level no player is unsellable, with his length of contract and promise it would take a huge bid to capture his signature. This rebuttal will come as no surprise to many Lincoln City fans who see him as a key asset this season.
