Exeter City loanee Ethan Brierley is attracting attention from several Championship and League One clubs, ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.

The 22-year-old is currently on loan at League One side Exeter City and is contracted to stay there until the end of the 2025/26 campaign, but that could be set to change as interest in his services grows.

The Grecians are 20th in the third-tier, just one point above the relegation zone and have just five wins to their name thus far.

Exeter midfielder tipped for January switch

As reported by journalist Pete O’Rourke, Exeter City midfielder Ethan Brierley has emerged on the radar of several Championship and League One sides.

The midfielder is currently on loan from Premier League side Brentford, but his contract with the Bees expires at the end of the 2025/26 season.

Therefore, Brentford have a decision to make in regards to Brierley’s future, knowing they could sell the midfielder for a fee in January, rather than losing him for free in six months time.

How has he fared so far this season?

Brierley joined Exeter on a season-long loan deal in July and has been a regular feature for the club since his arrival.

He’s made 19 appearances across all competitions for the club so far, providing one assist which came during their 2-0 victory against Devonshire rivals Plymouth Argyle in October.

Despite the clubs poor start to the season, Brierley has remained a standout name for the Grecians – further warranting the attention of sides higher up the table/leagues with the January transfer window looming.

Which sides could look to bring him in?

Controversially, Plymouth Argyle have form when it comes to prizing players away from Exeter and thus could look to repeat history again.

Cardiff City are another side in League One that have a similarly aged squad to Exeter and can offer Brierley a better chance of winning trophies this season.

Into the Championship, Sheffield Wednesday could look to bring him in should the embargoes and other restrictions be lifted – whilst Oxford United are another possible option.
