With the Championship season getting underway in a matter of days, it’s time to take a look at five individuals that could be top of the scoring charts come the end of the campaign.
With the future of current Golden Boot holder Sammie Szmodics still up in the air amid ongoing interest from Ipswich Town, it looks likely that there will be a new top talisman in the division.
The current record for most Championship goals in a season is currently held by Aleksandar Mitrovic who netted a whopping 43 league goals for table toppers Fulham in the 2021-22 season.
Here are a few players who could join him in being a second-tier Golden Boot winner.
Kieffer Moore
The 31-year-old Welsh international has hit home over 50 goals in the second division throughout his career, with seven of those coming during his 18-game stint on loan at Ipswich Town last season.
Proving an influential figure in the second half of the campaign, he helped the Tractor Boys secure Premier League promotion.
The 6’5” striker will not be short of service at the Blades with midfield trio Callum O’Hare, Gustavo Hamer and Ollie Arblaster sure to provide him with an abundance of opportunities.
Moore missed a sizable amount of game time during his last full season in the division, but he still managed to find the back of the net nine times in 15 starts for Bournemouth in 2021-22.
Emmanuel Latte Lath
Latte Lath joined Middlesbrough in the summer of 2023 and has since fired 16 goals in 30 Championship appearances.
The Ivorian forward bagged 11 goals in the final 12 fixtures of the season and will be hoping to carry that form into the upcoming campaign.
At 25 he is approaching his prime years, and with his highest-scoring season so far behind him, he is emerging as one of the favourites to top the scoring charts.
With Michael Carrick having few other options at centre-forward, Latte Lath is likely to be the main firepower for Boro this season.
Elijah Adebayo
Adebayo hit double figures for Luton Town last season in the Premier League as they were relegated back to the second tier.
The 6’4” powerhouse number 11 has found the back of the net over 40 times for Luton since joining from Walsall back in 2021.
He has hit double figures in all competitions for the last three seasons in a row, with his highest-scoring season coming in the 2021-22 campaign where he hit 16 league goals.
The Hatters will no doubt be amongst the sides fighting for promotion, and the strike duo of Adebayo and Carlton Morris are also likely to be amongst the division’s sharpest shooters.
Haji Wright
After hitting over 20 goal contributions in his first season in English football it’s clear to see why Wright is amongst those being tipped to claim the Golden Boot.
He joined the Sky Blues for a fee believed to be around £7.7 million last summer, so the expectations from him are high.
The 26-year-old will face competition for minutes this season, with Ellis Simms still at the club as well as the arrival of Brandon Thomas-Asante from West Brom.
But if he can continue and build on last season’s goal-scoring form he’s sure to be up there with the leading scorers in the league.
Josh Sargent
With Gabriel Sara leaving Norwich, and Leeds United keen on young starlet Jonathan Rowe, the Canaries need Sargent to step up to the plate.
The 24-year-old number nine found the back of the net 16 times in the Championship last season, finding a double-figure goal tally for the second consecutive campaign.
In his 66 Championship appearances, he has averaged a goal every 173 minutes, firing in a total of 29 second-tier goals across the last two seasons.
