With the summer transfer window finally closed, some clubs may still believe they need extra reinforcements for the season ahead, which is still a possibility despite the window closing.
The free agents list is a great opportunity for clubs to sign players that they need outside of the transfer window.
This list is for players who are currently not under contract with any club who are looking for a new team for the upcoming season.
Swansea are certainly a team that could benefit from this, with them still needing a few squad players for depth.
The question is, what players from this list should they attempt to sign?
What Positions Do They Need?
With this list being just five players the Swans could sign, the focus will be on the positions they need the most.
These are: Attacking Midfielders, Strikers, Full-Backs, and Centre-backs.
Steven Alzate
Alzate would be the perfect addition for the Swans as an attacking midfield option.
The Colombian was released by Brighton this summer after spending last season on loan with Standard Liege in Belgium.
He is a fantastic progressive player and Swansea have struggled so far with a lack of creativity in their midfield, with them only scoring four goals in their opening four matches.
If they could tempt Alzate into a move to South Wales, he could prove to be a great asset for Swansea and give them a great option in an area they definitely need.
Aaron Connolly
With Zan Vipotnik still adapting to the Championship and Liam Cullen currently missing with injury, Aaron Connolly could be a great attacking option for the Swans.
The Irishman left fellow Championship side Hull City this summer and has had a lot of interest from sides in the division.
He scored eight times last season and at just 24 years old, he is still a very useful asset and could be a great pickup for the Swans.
Connolly has had previous issues with attitude, but Luke Williams could be the perfect person to get the best out of the striker, with his addition potentially giving the Swans’ striking options a huge boost.
Cyrus Christie
Although Reggie Cannon is another great option in this area, a return for former star Christie could be the best option for the Swans.
He spent the second half of the 2021/22 season with the Swans, but Hull City were the team to pick him up for free at the end of the season after his contract expired with Fulham.
Christie has enjoyed two solid seasons with Hull, being a great option as a full-back both defensively and as an attacking defender, but he is now searching for a new club again.
Swansea could be the best option for Christie, as a return would allow him to provide great competition for Josh Key’s role if he is to make a permanent move to SA1.
Nathan Ferguson
A player who has struggled to establish himself so far in his career, Ferguson could be a great option for the Swans to help provide centre-back depth.
The West Brom academy graduate has spent the last four years at Crystal Palace but has never been able to break into the first-team setup.
However, he was kept on until this season, with many at the club still believing he has the potential to be a great player in the near future.
At 23 years old, the defender could be a useful asset for the Swans who are very light in that area of the pitch. Despite his limited professional minutes, it could be worth a punt.
Edouard Michut
Definitely a wildcard choice for the Swans, but Michut could be a fantastic option if he was willing to join the club.
The PSG Academy graduate is currently a free agent after being released this summer and is a huge talent that many believed would command a huge fee to sign.
He has Championship experience with Sunderland, making 28 appearances for the Black Cats as he showed some very impressive glimpses whilst on loan.
The Frenchman may find a better opportunity in the coming weeks, but he would be a huge addition to Swansea’s midfield if they could convince him to make the move.
