Carlisle United have had a turbulent start on their return to League Two this season and have lacked a real goal threat especially since Charlie Wyke suffered a long-term injury.

Several National League strikers could help solve this issue for Mike Williamson’s side. The Cumbrians have scored just 14 goals in 16 league games this season, the only team to score less is Tranmere Rovers.

Let’s take a look at five strikers that Carlisle could look at in January.

Regan Linney

The Altrincham striker has scored goals for every side he has played for. He began his career at Bamber Bridge and then moved on to FC United Of Manchester and that was where his exceptional work rate and goalscoring ability became clear for everyone to see. He is currently the joint second top scorer in the National League on 9 goals in 18 games.

Jack Stevens

The Solihull Moors striker has been a proven goalscorer in non-league for Solihull Moors and Banbury, that ability to find the net is something Carlisle are missing. Solihull Moors narrowly missed out on promotion to League Two last season with Stevens playing an integral part in their success. He is currently on 9 goals from 14 games in the National League this season.

Ollie Pearce

The York City forward is another proven goalscorer in non-league having scored an abundance of goals for Worthing before moving to York. Pearce has a unique track record of scoring more than a goal a game in all of his six seasons at Worthing, his best record being 43 goals in 27 games. He is currently on 9 goals from 18 games this season.

Owen Oseni

The Gateshead striker began his career at Derby County and since his release has scored goals in non-league for Rushall Olympic and Nuneaton before moving to Gateshead. The Mike Williamson and Gateshead connection could be another reason why this move could happen. He is currently on 8 goals in 18 games in the National League this season.

Emmanuel Dieseruvwe

The Hartlepool striker first came on the scene by helping Salford City out of non-league before moving to Tranmere Rovers, Grimsby Town and FC Halifax. The striker has most recently found a home at Hartlepool where he scored 23 goals last season and is currently on 8 goals in 18 games this season in the National League this season.
