Fleetwood Town Set to Announce New Manager

Fleetwood Town are set to announce former Premier League midfielder Charlie Adam as their new manager, reports Alan Nixon.

Ex-Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam is set to become the new manager of League One side Fleetwood Town after the sacking of Lee Johnson earlier today.

Adam is currently working behind the scenes at Premier League side Burnley, working with their under-21s side as well as managing all of their loanees. According to Alan Nixon, Burnley won’t stand in the way of the Scotsman if he wants to leave the club in favour of this managerial opportunity.

After a long playing career at the highest level, Adam’s will reportedly jump at the chance to take on his first managerial tenure having already begun his climb up the coaching ladder with Burnley.

The news comes just hours after Lee Johnson was axed from Fleetwood Town after only 22 matches at the helm.

Lee Johnson joined the Cod army in September and leaves them second-bottom in League One. The football club suffered a 2-0 defeat against Bolton Wanderers on Friday and are currently five points off safety at the halfway stage of the season, winning just four of their first 23.

Writer’s View

In my eyes, now is the perfect time to try something new. Fleetwood hasn’t been at it all season and if they want to take a risk with a new manager, doing it just before the transfer window, in my opinion, is the way to go.

Charlie Adam has a plethora of top quality football experience and has already begun his coaching career at a top level club. This move will be a bigger risk for the club than the coach but one both sides should be looking to take and I’d be excited to see how the player gets on.
