Former Burton Albion manager Dino Maamria is in talks to manage a side competing in next summer’s Club World Cup.
He is reportedly in discussions with Tunisian champions Esperance Sportive De Tunis, with a number of roles on the table.
What Is Being Reported?
Football Insider journalist Pete O’Rourke is reporting that Maamria, who formerly managed Stevenage and Oldham Athletic, before most recently leading League One’s Burton Albion, is in talks over a new job.
Both head coach and sporting director positions are on offer for the Tunisian-born Maamria.
In an hour-long interview with The Deck last month, Maamria confirmed that he had rejected multiple job offers since leaving his most recent post last December. The former Brewers boss said he was waiting for the right, long-term project to come his way.
Esperance Sportive De Tunis currently sit sixth in the Tunisian top flight, having won 33 titles during their club history.
Former Burton Albion Manager:
Burton Albion are without a manager themselves after Mark Robinson was dismissed from his role, with the Brewers rooted to the bottom of the third tier.
They remain winless in league action, despite recent successes in the FA Cup under the direction of their interim boss, Tom Hounsell.
Will Dino Maamria Head to Tunisia? – Opinion
Maamria might swap the EFL for his home country, despite building up a strong reputation in the English game. The 50-year-old’s name has been circling around a number of League One jobs that have become available over recent weeks and months.
The constant rumour mill churns on, and pulls out the same names again and again. But, this reported interest seems legitimate. And, it makes sense. Maamria is from Tunisia, and a change to return will surely be one that is intriguing for him.
We will have to wait and see if Maamria heads out of England for his next managerial role, with a chance to manage in the Club World Cup an interesting one.
