Former Derby County Men Into Final Stages For Managerial Vacancy

Recently relegated Championship side Burnley are reportedly entering the final stages of their hunt for a new manager with Frank Lampard, Scott Parker, and Liam Rosenior among the names considered for the role, according to Alan Nixon on his Patreon account.

Burnley have been narrowing down their list of suitable replacements for Vincent Kompany, following his surprise departure to German giants Bayern Munich in recent weeks. The Clarets have reportedly already spoken to the trio of Parker, Lampard and Rosenior but have also considered current interim boss Craig Bellamy and experienced manager Steve Bruce.

Do they face competition?

They do face some competition however, Parker has been heavily linked to taking over at Sheffield United should a takeover proceed. The 43-year-old has been without a job since being dismissed by Club Brugge last season, following spells at Fulham and Bournemouth.

Lampard has been linked to the long-term vacant position at the Stadium of Light after fellow candidate Liam Rosenior pulled out of a move to the Black Cats. Lampard has had spells in charge of Derby County, Everton and Chelsea (twice) since his retirement from football.

Rosenior, as previously mentioned was in negotiations to take over Sunderland, but pulled out of the process to pursue other opportunities. The 39-year-old has had spells in charge of Derby County and Hull City

Bellamy also has some support from within the club having been number two to Kompany, but with the owner keen to appoint a big-name manager, the Welshman could be overlooked in favour of another target.

Steve Bruce has also reportedly been considered but is down the pecking order in the process

Who will the relegated side appoint?

With the owner determined to appoint a big name, it is likely that they will follow up the appointment of Kompany with the appointment of another Premier League winner Frank Lampard. Despite arguably not being the best manager on the list, he does fit the “big name” billing that the club want.

He does have experience in the Championship though, having guided Derby County to the play-offs before being appointed manager of the club that considers him a legend.
