Former Lincoln City Man Set for Portsmouth Transfer

Championship Portsmouth are closing in on the signing of former Lincoln City defender Cohen Bramall from League One Rotherham United, with a bid reportedly accepted.

The 28-year-old defender is entering the final few months of his contract with the Millers, having signed for the club in 2022 on a three-year deal from Lincoln City. He has since gone on to make 102 appearances for the League One side but has struggled to make as much of an impact this season.

This season he has only started five league games but was able to chip in with two assists in the EFL Trophy. But now, according to Pete O’Rourke he looks set to make the move to Championship side Portsmouth after a bid was accepted.

Rapid Rotherham

Brammall is a player who boasts rapid pace, with good recovery speed as well as the ability to get in behind on the overlap. Especially late into a game when the opposing full backs are tiring this can be a vital tool at any team’s disposal.

However, he does perhaps struggle against teams who sit back and don’t allow him the space to run into. His defending with his back to goal can be a weaker element at times and is best utilised stopping those through balls and long speculative attempts to feed the striker over the defensive line. He is able to get back and at a minimum slow the attack to give his defensive line enough time to get back into shape.

Portsmouth Transfer Addition

Brammall does have experience in League One and the Championship, so will be well prepared should Portsmouth remain in the second tier, or drop down to the third tier again. In his spell at Lincoln City he showed how useful he can be for a side that wanted to control the ball under Michael Appleton which will likely have been taken into account by John Mousinho’s side.
