Former Manchester United Academy defender Max Taylor has joined National League side Solihull Moors on a one-month loan, as confirmed via a statement on the club’s website.
The 24-year-old has joined Andy Whing’s promotion-chasing side on loan from fellow National League club Rochdale, due to a series of issues in the Moors back line heading into a tricky period of fixtures.
Speaking to the club’s website, Taylor stated…
“I’m really pleased, it’s getting to the exciting part of the season and I’m excited to be a part of it.
“I want to contribute whatever I can in terms of playing and getting the results that we need.
“I’m really looking forward to it, I’ve had a frustrating season myself, so getting a good run of games is really exciting for myself.”
How has Taylor performed so far this season?
Due to a series of tactical changes by Jimmy McNulty, Taylor hasn’t featured as often as he’d have liked so far this season. The centre-back joined the National League side back in the summer of 2021, following his release from Manchester United.
The defender has been limited to just 14 league appearances in the National League this season, providing one assist during a 4-3 defeat against Oldham Athletic in October.
However, Taylor has managed just four minutes of league football since the end of January and was desperately in need of first-team minutes, which could be the main reason why he was allowed to depart.
Why has this decision been made?
Solihull Moors face a difficult run of matches in both the National League and the FA Trophy but also have a series of injuries and suspensions that’s left them limited at the back.
Alex Whitmore and Kyle Morrison are out injured whilst Richard Stearman is suspended following his red card against Aldershot Town last weekend.
Young full-back Finn Howell was also recalled from his loan spell at Bromsgrove Sporting yesterday in order to provide additional cover for Andy Whing’s side.
Double Wembley trip?
Solihull Moors are currently one game away from Wembley Stadium in the FA Trophy, as they face Bromley in the semi-finals, with the winner heading to London to face either Gateshead or Macclesfield.
Meanwhile, the club sit fourth in the National League and face the possibility of making the playoffs this season, giving them a shot at a double Wembley trip.
