Four Free Agents for Carlisle United – Opinion

The transfer window is over, meaning that the only option for clubs wanting to bolster their squad before January will come in the form of unattached players.

This article will be taking a look at four free agents for Carlisle United as they look to recover from a poor start to the season and the departure of manager Paul Simpson.

Four Free Agents for Carlisle United

It’s been clear from the opening games of the season that Carlisle is light in the attacking third and really lacks that killer pass, service for the striker or a clinical finishing touch so with that in mind I have picked four free agents for the Cumbrians to take a good look at.

Mohamed Eisa

The 30-year-old Sudanese forward is currently available after his release from MK Dons at the end of last season.

Eisa has played for a number of EFL clubs including Peterborough United, Cheltenham Town and Bristol City. Arguably his best two spells were with Cheltenham where he scored 23 times in 45 appearances and MK Dons where he scored 28 times in 87 appearances. He can operate out wide and through the middle in a front three and can operate as a lone striker depending on which formation the new Carlisle boss will choose to play.

Dwight Gayle

The 34-year-old experienced striker is something of an optimistic choice but he is without a club and is actively looking for a new club so he could be an option for Carlisle United.

Gayle’s record speaks for itself, he has played at the hugest level and scored against some of the best teams in the country. The striker has played at Crystal Palace, Newcastle United, West Brom in the Premier League and has vast EFL experience playing for Stoke City, and Derby County and Peterborough United. He has scored goals at every club he’s played for and could be the goal threat with that clinical finishing that Carlisle United have been missing

Marcus Browne

The 26-year-old midfielder is a choice that should be strongly considered. Browne began his career in the widely respected West Ham United academy, he had a spell at Middlesborough and found his home at Oxford United. Browne played his part in Oxford’s promotion to the Championship last season and made 85 appearances over two separate spells with the Championship side.

He’s been described by his previous managers as technically gifted and a player with a lot of potential. He can play as a creative midfielder and a winger which are two areas Carlisle are really lacking right now.

Romaine Sawyers

The 32-year-old midfielder is a player who has played his entire career in the EFL and would add much-needed experience and creativity at Brunton Park.

Sawyers has played for Walsall, Brentford, West Brom, Stoke City and Cardiff City all while in the EFL. He can play as an attacking midfielder as well as an advanced playmaker who can create and score goals. He has assisted and scored goals at every club he’s played for as well as representing his country St Kitts and Nevis on 45 occasions as well. His longest and arguably best spells were with Walsall and Brentford where he made over 109 appearances for both clubs.
