Four Managers Solihull Moors Could Consider

Solihull Moors remain in the market for a new first-team manager following the departure of Matt Taylor, but who could they consider next?

Since their initial promotion into the National League, the club has consistently over-achieved by their size and have been involved in several play-off campaigns, reaching the final on two separate occasions.

However, since the departure of Andy Whing to League Two side Barrow in January, the club have fallen on a downwards trajectory and narrowly avoided relegation to the National League North last season.

The current campaign hasn’t gone much better, until the departure of Matt Taylor occurred, but Solihull Moors are still several places away from where they want to be.

With that in mind and the club still being manager-less, here are four individuals they could consider for the role…

Mark Cooper:

Cooper is currently without a club, following his recent exit from fellow National League side Yeovil Town and knows the division inside out.

The 56-year-old began his managerial career down the road at Tamworth and has since gone on to manage the likes of Swindon Town, Barrow, Peterborough United and Forest Green Rovers.

He was the mastermind behind Forest Green’s promotion into the EFL back in 2017, proving that he knows how to get smaller teams into the football league – something no Solihull Moors manager has ever achieved.

Whilst his style of play came under criticism at times, it did ultimately bring success to the clubs he’s been at, which is something that Solihull are likely to have taken a big interest in.

Anthony Limbrick:

Speaking of Yeovil, one individual that was heavily linked to the role recently was former TNS FC manager Anthony Limbrick.

The 42-year-old is currently out of work following his departure from Hartlepool United back in June and has also managed Welsh Premiership side TNS & fellow National League side Woking.

Limbrick ended the previous season as manager of Hartlepool, winning four and drawing five of his 13 league games in charge – establishing a PPG (points per game) total of 1.31.

Similarly, Limbrick was also pictured attending a recent game between Yeovil and Solihull when the Glovers links first came out – suggesting that potentially he may have been watching both sides rather than just the one.

Adam Hinshelwood:

Yeah, this is certainly ambitious but if recent years have taught us anything, it’s that Solihull Moors themselves are a club consistently trying to defy the odds and reach the EFL.

Hinshelwood has had eye-catching managerial spells at Worthing and York City recently but despite not achieving any success in terms of trophies, his sides have continued to attract a lot of attention.

The 41-year-old has been known for taking on roles where sides are underperforming by their usual standard and transitioning them into promotion-chasing sides. Whilst Solihull may seem an odd move to some, they do currently fall under this particular category.

Solihull Moors’ current style of football isn’t necessarily an identical match to Hinshelwood’s, but the club certainly have the players to be able to make the transition into a passing and attack-minded side.

James Quinn:

Based solely on his popularity at the club and his success as caretaker boss so far, could the door be open for James Quinn to make the transition to becoming the permanent manager?

Quinn has previously been the assistant manager at the football club and has recently returned from Alvechurch FC to become the caretaker after Matt Taylor’s exit.

However, since Taylor left the club, Solihull Moors have been unbeaten under Quinn’s leadership. It started with a 2-1 victory against Boston United before drawing 4-4 against Morecambe and beating Burnley’s U21s on penalties in the NL Cup.

Their best result so far occurred on Saturday as Solihull Moors ended York City’s unbeaten start to the season, showing determination and spirit to fend off a wave of attacks before winning at the other end. Could he be in line for the job permanently?

Solihull Moors fans, who do you want as your next manager?
