Four Things We Learned From Solihull Moors 2-0 Boreham Wood - Opinion - The Deck - Entertainment, Film, Film News

Solihull Moors have placed further pressure on Bromley and Barnet following a 2-0 victory against Boreham Wood on Tuesday evening, but what four things did we learn from the match itself?

In a closely fought battle between the two sides, Andy Whing’s side produced an excellent victory against a tricky opponent in Luke Garrard’s Boreham Wood to move to within two points of Bromley in third, with eight league games left to play.

England C international Callum Maycock continued his fine form to fire Solihull ahead after being picked out by loanee Tyrese Shade before Tahvon Campbell made it five goals in seven appearances to confirm the three points and maintain fourth place despite Aldershot Town, Gateshead and Altrincham all also winning.

Boreham Wood had their fair share of chances, but couldn’t find a way past a resolute Moors defence and have slipped further down the National League standings.

With that being said, let’s take a look at four things we learnt from Tuesday’s clash…

Shade is a must-sign player

Following Josh Kelly’s move to AFC Wimbledon, many Non-League fans questioned whether Solihull Moors had what it takes to continue their form. Andy Whing’s side brought in Swindon’s Tyrese Shade on loan after a frustrating first half of the season – a decision that has proven to be a sensational one.

Shade picked up another assist on Tuesday, assisting Maycock’s opener and has continued to excel for Solihull Moors this season. With the winger being out of favour in League Two, Andy Whing’s men need to do everything they can to permanently sign Shade this summer.

More frustration for Luke Garrard

In what has been a season of frustration for Boreham Wood, the situation got worse as missed chances continued to haunt Luke Garrard’s side once again, as well as some disappointing defending.

The club are currently just three points above the relegation zone and faces a tricky battle to try and avoid the drop. Boreham Wood host Altrincham this weekend, a side that put six goals past York City on Tuesday evening in what will be another difficult task for the club.

Maycock’s a magician

Solihull midfielder Callum Maycock has been on fire for the Midlands side over the last few weeks and his purple patch continued with another goal on Tuesday evening as well as contributing to Campbell’s strike.

The midfielder scored a second-half strike to help send Solihull Moors to the FA Trophy semi-final as well as earning a call-up to the England C team for their upcoming international friendly against Wales.

An injury concern for the Wood

In an evening of frustration for Boreham Wood, matters were made worse when midfielder Matt Robinson was taken off with a suspected injury in the second half.

The injury came at a bad time for Luke Garrard’s side, especially considering they’d just conceded and were already chasing the game at that stage. All parties will be extremely hopeful that Robinson’s injury isn’t serious and that he’ll be back involved at the weekend.
