Frank Lampard Swoops to Secure England International for Coventry City

Coventry City

Frank Lampard’s Coventry City could be set to sign an England international, who was previously signed by the Blues legend in his spell at Stamford Bridge this summer.

Lampard is aiming big this year with the Premier League firmly in his sights. They sit third in the table after three games as one of just a handful of unbeaten clubs in the division. Their impressive 7-1 victory over QPR showcased their ambition, however it is clear that their transfer activity is not over yet.

The signings of Carl Rushworth, on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion, alongside Kaine Kesler-Hayden and Miguel Angel Brau have represented a quiet window to date. The latter of the three joined on a free transfer from Granada early in the window, but it would appear that Lampard is not fully satisfied with the left-back position.

Frank Lampard Aims to Sign Ben Chilwell for Coventry City from Chelsea

Lampard is aiming to secure the ambitious addition of England international Ben Chilwell. The defender has struggled to make an impact in the Blues side in recent years with injuries and a huge squad overhaul limiting his game time. The club have, to date, tried and failed to find him a new club. This may have even prompted them to terminate his contract early.

However, their could be a lifeline according to Si Philips, who believes that he could be set to drop down to the Championship and reunited with Lampard.

Chilwell is in contract with the club until 2027, but with no game time on the horizon he would likely welcome the move. He has 177 Premier League appearances and 21 England caps to his name. This could be considered a major coup for a club in the second tier.

It perhaps is a unique situation considering the ambitions of the club and the manager’s connection.

As One Door Opens Another Door Closes

Earlier in the window boyhood Coventry City man and full-back Jack Burroughs left the club permanently to find a new home with Northampton Town. He was well liked at the club but ultimately struggled to turn his loan spells into game time. Since then he has been regularly appearing for the Cobblers, with five League One appearances to his name. Whilst Chilwell did have a much greater impact at Chelsea, his situation is similar, where gametime is not forthcoming. So the chance to drop a division and become a regular starter could be beneficial for all.
