A fresh development has emerged in regards to Peterborough United and their ongoing pursuit of Southend United midfielder Oli Coker.
The 22-year-old has emerged on the radar of the League One side ahead of a possible summer transfer, with a new piece of information now coming to light.
As we know, Peterborough United are well known for their signing and developing of National League/Non-League footballers with there being plenty of revent examples.
Peterborough contemplate bid for National League midfielder
As reported by journalist Chris Phillips, Peterborough United are contemplating as to whether they should make a formal bid to try and sign Southend United midfielder Oli Coker.
It’s been revealed that the League One side had made a formal enquiry earlier in the transfer window and are now considering their next steps.
Whether a bid is made or not remains to be seen, but with Peterborough being a club known for their development of young talent and in the market for midfielders, it could likely happen.
How did he fare last season?
The 22-year-old played a key role for Southend United during the previous campaign, helping them to reach the National League play-off final.
After contributing nine goals in 28 games in the previous season before last, Coker improved both tally’s by hitting double figures in 35 league appearances.
This included a crucial assist for Southend during their play-off semi-final victory against Forest Green Rovers as well as a hat-trick of contributions during a Boxing Day riot against Ebbsfleet United.
Could Coker be Peterborough’s latest Non-League star?
Firstly, Peterborough would need to make a bid and complete a deal for the midfielder, but as we know they are very well-known when it comes to signing, developing and making profit on players from Non-League.
Recent examples have seen the likes of Ephron Mason-Clarke, Ronnie Edwards and Jack Taylor all arriving from Barnet and all going on to sign for Championship/Premier League clubs respectively.
Coker has now experienced two very good seasons from midfield and has arguably done enough to justify a step into the EFL.
He will get minutes with Peterborough and if he can pick up where he left off last season, Coker will impress in the EFL.
