Fulham

Premier League side Fulham are preparing to open talks with Southampton full-back Kyle Walker-Peters at the end of the season. The 28-year-old’s contract at St Mary’s expires this summer, and according to Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports News, the Cottagers are the first club to register their interest.

Walker-Peters has featured in almost every match for the Saints in a season that has culminated in a very early relegation. Fulham are said to expect major competition in their pursuit of the former England international if he decides to leave the South Coast after a five-year stay.

What can Kyle Walker-Peters bring to Fulham?

Fulham have enjoyed a positive season under Marco Silva and find themselves firmly in the hunt to secure European football next season. Therefore, it is little surprise to see them seeking to add experienced Premier League names to their ranks.

The Cottagers boast a crop of full-backs including Antonee Robinson, Kenny Tete and Ryan Sessegnon, all of whom have been utilised across a range of positions. It may well be the similar versatility of Walker-Peters that interests them, having played on the left as well as in midfield at points in his career.

Having begun his senior career at Tottenham Hotspur in 2015, Walker-Peters applied his trade in direct competition with some Premier League greats of his position. Playing alongside close namesake Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier could only have benefitted his rapid progression.

During the 2024/25 season, Fulham have claimed some major scalps, aided by their structured playing schedule, mainly comprised of one game a week. Should they win the race to finish in a European position, Thursday night matches will become a regular occurrence next season.

The prospect of two matches a week means the need for extra reinforcements is crucial for Fulham. The potential allure of European football next season would certainly make the move to West London all the more tempting for Walker-Peters.

Change of Scene Deserved & Welcome

Walker-Peters has been a valuable asset to Southampton, playing a major role in multiple Premier League seasons as well as last season’s promotion-winning campaign. After over five years of service, he has certainly repaid the £12 million fee they paid Spurs in 2020, becoming a cornerstone of the Saints team since.

But with interest in his services likely to grow at the culmination of the season, the opportunity to remain in the top flight will surely tempt him. With Kenny Tete also out of contract at Fulham this summer, the Saints man could end up a like-for-like replacement for the Dutchman.

Walker-Peters has established himself as a reliable Premier League level full back, and is likely to relish a new challenge after enduring a tough campaign rooted to the foot of the division. His ability to strike an ideal balance between strong defensive positioning, and posing an attacking threat would be an asset to a host of Premier League clubs.

Southampton’s plight, and his diminutive stature certainly hasn’t deterred him from becoming a strong tackler against the trickiest of wingers. Offensively, however, the wing-back has registered just two assists this season.

After a desperate lack of opportunities to regularly show off his attacking abilities this term, a move to established top-flight side Fulham will surely allow for greater chances.

The list of potential suitors for this particular seasoned defender is extensive, with early front runners Fulham fully prepared to do battle for Walker-Peters’ signature.
