Wrexham are in the midst of an injury crisis with Arthur Okonkwo and Callum Burton currently injured. The club signed Brad Foster on a short-term deal and have been linked with a move for Hull City’s Thimothee Lo-Tutala, however one former player has ruled himself out of a return.

Former Premier League goalkeeper Ben Foster has ruled out a potential return after retiring (again) from football at the beginning of the 2023/24 season. He had helped the club achieve promotion from the National League to League Two, but struggled to get up to pace with EFL football once again.

Foster was asked somewhat tongue in cheek whether he would return to the Welsh club once again to help them navigate their injury situation.

What did Foster say?

Speaking to Will Brazier on his YouTube channel Foster stated firmly:

“Hell no. Definitely not. Not this time round, no,”

“Chomp [Howard] is a good goalie anyway, to be fair to him. It won’t happen again, definitely not.”

What will Wrexham do about their situation?

Brad Foster has been airdropped into the squad as a free agent to provide cover for third choice goalkeeper Mark Howard. However, the length of his deal is only short as they await Okonkwo’s return.

It is likely that they look to bring in an additional option in the January window either on loan or on a deal to the end of the season to provide some competition as a number two. Should either player suffer an injury it would again leave them in the same situation and with a potential promotion to the Championship on the cards it is not worth the risk to leave themselves short.

If the club do opt to bring in Thimothee Lo-Tutala it will be a quality, arguably first team ready replacement even if his recent playing time is low.
