The exciting arrival of Andy Cook has raised many questions surrounding Grimsby Town’s outgoings this window, with the squad appearing to be bloated in the striker department.

Despite having scored over fifty goals in all competitions this season, the Mariners’ forward line has been heavily inconsistent. With David Artell often opting for one striker in his line-ups, with Jaze Kabia, Jude Soonsup-Bell, and club captain Danny Rose amongst their options.

Now, with prospect striker Cameron Gardner soon to return from injury, while Andy Cook is a statement signing for any club at this level, it is clear to see that the Mariners are relatively bloated in the forward positions.

Zak Gilsenan recently departed on loan to National League North side, Buxton, while a permanent deal has reportedly been struck for the services of Danny Rose.

Danny Rose For Permanent Mariners Departure

Of the striking options set to depart the club, according to reports from Football Insider, Danny Rose is set to join fellow League Two outfit Barrow on a permanent deal.

This deal will be quite debated amongst fans, as the striker has been one of the club’s most consistent performers over the years.

Returning 35 goals in 107 appearances for the Mariners, his contributions were pivotal to their survival in 2024, as well as their play-off push last season.

While Rose’s return of five goals in 18 appearances across all competitions this season has been respectable, his season has been plagued by injuries, and he has not appeared in Artell’s matchday squad in their previous five matches. Ironically, one of his two league goals this season came against Barrow in a 2-2 draw back in November.

Additionally, the 32-year-old has only managed four starts in League Two this campaign, and is clearly behind Cook and Kabia in the pecking order.

Danny Rose To Join Barrow

Despite his struggles this season, the frontman is more than respectable at League Two level.

Returning well in the final third in his last two full seasons, the move makes perfect sense when seeking regular minutes, while Barrow will be receiving a great talisman for the division.

Also well-regarded for his stints with Stevenage and Mansfield Town, Rose is known for a relentless work-rate, a great leap, and prowess in the opposition box.

Paul Gallagher’s side needs a goalscorer, and are currently struggling at the wrong end of the table in 19th.

The prospects of Rose partnering with Isaac Fletcher are exciting at the fourth tier level. The North West side is due to host Crawley Town this weekend, and it will be interesting to see if a deal is wrapped up in time for their new frontman’s involvement.
