Grimsby Town are on the cusp of signing Hull City‘s Tyrell Sellars-Fleming, who is currently on loan with Lincolnshire rivals Scunthorpe United.

The Iron have enjoyed having the 20-year-old on loan so far this season, scoring seven times across 18 matches, playing a big role in their playoff push this season. However, that is set to change, with Hull now recalling their youngster to play in the EFL.

Derby Lines Crossed

According to BBC Humberside’s Mike White in an update on a move for Sellars-Fleming, Grimsby are set to sign the forward on loan for the remainder of the season, which will be completed within the next couple of days.

A previous report from White stated that multiple sides in League Two were interested in the striker this January, with the Mariners among the pack.

Starting his career at Scunthorpe, Sellars-Fleming would make a switch to the Tigers in 2023, who handed him first-team opportunities alongside regular youth team experience.

His first loan move away from East Yorkshire came at the start of last year, with a half-season spell at Gateshead in the National League, with five goal contributions in 15 games for the Heed as they narrowly missed out on the playoffs.

Upon their promotion back into the fifth tier, Scunthope signed their former starlet on a season-long loan deal, where he would play across the front line in support of leading goalscorer Danny Whitehall as the Iron pushes for a top seven finish under Andy Butler.

Move Reignites Rivalry

With Scunthorpe’s descent down the divisions, it felt that somewhat of a spark was lost between the Iron and Grimsby Town, but with United now back in contention for a place in the EFL, this will certainly bring back some strong feelings about their old rivals.

Having come through at the Attis Arena, Tyrell Sellars-Fleming moving east to the coast will certainly ruffle a few feathers in the fanbase, especially with how well he was contributing to their unexpected promotion push.

For the striker though, this is a massive opportunity to prove himself at the League Two level with a great coach in David Artell and joins at a time when they need goalscorers amid the absence of Danny Rose.

While they will need to sort out some other business this window, such as a new goalkeeper to sort out their emergency loan situation, this is a solid start for the Mariners at a critical time for their playoff hopes.
