Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has been tipped for an exit from the German capital this summer. Reports have swirled surrounding a release clause for the 31-year-old, but now a potential destination has emerged in the Premier League.
Kane will be in action for Thomas Tuchel’s England over the international break, heading into the fixture against Latvia on Monday evening. His goal against Albania on Friday took his tally to 70 in 104 appearances for the Three Lions.
While he will most likely captain his nation, his future at the Allianz Arena seems uncertain, and with reports of a landing spot in the Premier League circulating Liverpool have been named as the favourites to land his signature.
Harry Kane to move away from Bayern Munich?
The report, emerging from Spanish outlet El Nacional, states that Kane is seriously considering a return to the Premier League to close out his playing days. As he heads into his later days, he has shown that he can still compete with some of the top players. A disappointing first season with his club in Germany last time out has been met with a swift response.
Bayern Munich sits six points at the top of the Bundesliga during the international break. Kane has led much of the way with 21 goals in 24 league matches. It does not end there for the England captain, who has scored 10 in 11 in the Champions League. The striker will fancy his chances at a trophy with that in mind, and Bayern face Inter Milan next in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Is the Premier League right for Kane after Bayern Munich?
One criticism faced in the former Tottenham Hotspur forward’s career has been the absence of trophies. For all his goalscoring exploits, Kane has never won a major trophy for club or country. That is not for lack of trying; the forward has led his country to two European finals, both ended in heartbreak. Defeat in the German Super Cup last season saw the 31-year-old take his tally of defeats in finals to six.
This season with Bayern Munich is a strong possibility to amend his past and lift a league title with the club. Leverkusen’s victory last season was the first in a decade that Munich did not lift the league title.
If the England striker is to finally end his trophy curse, a return to the Premier League would seem suitable for him. A major trophy with Tottenham did not seem likely to come any time soon, and joining Liverpool poses the chance of more silverware. Not only that, he could set his sights on the goalscoring record of Alan Shearer. The former Newcastle forward’s tally stands at 260, with Kane behind him with 213.
Do Liverpool need Bayern Munich hitman?
Liverpool are runaway leaders in the Premier League, closing in on their second title. Arne Slot’s Reds have netted 69 times this season in 29 games. Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah has contributed the most to that, with 27 goals. However, there is a worrying situation for their talismanic forward, whose contract situation seems likely to culminate with his exit from the club this summer.
More than one face in Liverpool’s forward line is linked with an exit from Anfield this summer, with Darwin Nunez tipped for a move to Saudi Arabia. The future of Colombian winger Luis Diaz is also up in the air currently. While the Reds would prefer a younger target for their forward like Alexander Isak, that seems a very pricey move, and a forward like Harry Kane, who can still compete at this top level, would seem a wise investment if the price is right.
