In high-level European football, each individual player is on a path to achieving a certain milestone or achievement. Some players seek to sign for a big club, others want to play in the top divisions. Some players are already at that level and put their focus on other individual or team accolades. Harry Kane is a player who has not had the rub of the green regarding his silverware or lack of.
The English forward burst onto the scene in the 2014-15 season with Tottenham Hotspur, following successful loan spells with Millwall, Norwich City and Leicester City. Showing just a glimpse of what he is capable of, being the divisions’ top scorer in his first season.
Since then, he has shown an utterly ridiculous amount of consistency regarding his goal scoring numbers. Being a lethal threat in front of goal for the London club in seven straight years, with the least amount of goals scored in a season being 17 in the 18/19 and 21/22 seasons.
Whilst also being a very reliable player in terms of his availability, although he did sustain a few injuries over the years. The most amount of games missed in a season for the Englishmen was 17 in the 18/19 season, coincidently connected with one of his least goal-scoring seasons.
Moving on to his time in Germany, where he is once again a player that the team relies on. His latest hattrick came against Augsburg in the Allianz Arena, scoring once from open play and twice from the penalty spot.
Does Harry Kane deserve a trophy?
The talisman has no doubt had an extremely successful career regarding his individual achievements, Kane has scored 300+ goals for Tottenham and Bayern Munich only.
Not to mention his threat as a striker who can also hold up the ball well, receive under pressure and use his wide range of passing. The 31-year-old has also provided for his teammates on several occasions, creating various attacking partnerships more notably with Son Heung-min.
However, Kane has had several opportunities to make himself a hero for his club or country and has failed to do so.
From the Champions League loss against Liverpool in 2019, missing a penalty against France in the World Cup Quarter-final, to both finals against Italy and Spain in consecutive EUROS campaigns.
Although the teams that he has reached those positions with are not optimal, he has had a fair share of chances. However, he can’t be blamed in isolation, the Englishmen seem to always be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Can he finally win a trophy this season?
The multi-time Golden Boot winner moved to Bayern Munich in 2023, with the chances of lifting a trophy heavily increasing.
However, once again Kane was met with bad luck, as Bayern faced their toughest opponent over the last decade, an invincible Bayer Leverkusen. Which lead to the Bavarian club not winning a title for the first time in 10+ years.
This season though, Bayern Munich are leading the Bundesliga by eight points without Leipzig’s game in hand, with 29 points. As they look to capitalize on Leverkusen’s current inconsistencies, led by Harry Kane.
The forward leads the goal-scoring charts with 14 goals, as he extended the gap between him and the rising Egyptian, Omar Marmoush.
Although Bayern seems to be in a transitional period with this season being Vincent Kompany’s first. Their European campaign has been on and off currently placed in the playoff places in the new Champions League format, with their upcoming game against the French giants, PSG being a crucial one.
Finally, if Kane finishes the season with a single Bundesliga title, it will give him a major boost to be able to push on for more success in the future.
Summary
Harry Kane’s career has been quite a unique one, a world-class player with individual numbers that could see him become one of the very best, but potentially ending his career without a single trophy. Overall, it will be interesting how he can maintain his form when his team needs him the most, and if he can finally lead the side to his first major trophy.
