Hartlepool United have confirmed loanees Charlie Seaman, Joe Mattock, Zak Johnson and Ciaran Brennan have returned to their parent clubs after their loan deals were terminated, as confirmed via a statement on the club’s website.

The four loanees have been sent back, with the football club looking to head into a new direction whilst continuing to search for John Askey’s replacement after he was dismissed as manager last month.

Defender Charie Seaman made 16 appearances in all competitions for the football club, adding two goals but has been hit with injuries and has now returned to Doncaster Rovers.

Fellow defender Joe Mattock made a handful of appearancences for the club but has now returned to League Two side Harrogate Town.

Sunderland youngster Zak Johnson got off to a positive start to life in the National League but has since suffered a hamstring injury which has limited the players progress.

Finally, Sheffield Wednesday’s Ciaran Brennan had limited first-team minutes under John Askey and has moved back to the National League side.

The managerless side has picked up just one win in their last six games, losing three of their last four and have conceded ten goals in the process which has pushed them further down the standings.

Hartlepool United currently sit 18th in the National League, four points above the relegation zone after playing 26 of the 46 league matches. The club have also lost 14 of their 26 games and are in danger of potentially being drawn into a relegation scrap.

Writer’s View

Seeing four of the club’s loanees returning to their parent clubs is both a positive and negative thing for Hartlepool United in the short-term.

It leaves the football club with less depth this season, but it also gives the new manager a blank canvas to start again once they decide who’s taking the role.
