Hartlepool United Win Race For National League Winger

Hartlepool United News

Hartlepool United have announced the loan signing of winger Courtney Senior from fellow National League side Barnet, as confirmed via a statement on the club’s website.

The 26-year-old joins on a short-term deal that will last for one month in a bid to recapture Hartlepool’s form after a tough season back in the fifth tier.

Who is Courtney Senior?

Senior has appeared for Barnet this season 11 times and picked up one assist. He has recently returned from a loan spell at the National League South leaders Yeovil also, where he made four appearances but failed to find the back of the net.

The pacy winger began his career in the Brentford academy system where he went on to make one appearance for the Bees. following his release from Brentford after a loan spell at Wycombe, Senior made the move to Colchester, where he went on to make over 140 appearances for the club in the football league. Following his departure from Colchester, Senior went on to play in the EFL for Newport and Wimbledon before joining Barnet as a free agent in the 2022/23 season.

Latest of the new arrivals

Senior joins a very busy Hartlepool side, with new manager Kevin Phillips making him his third signing of the week following the arrivals of Otis Khan and Luke Waterfall. The Pools currently sit 14th in the league on 34 points. Senior will join looking to help them push up the table in search of a late chance at making the playoffs.

What’s been said?

Upon confirmation of the transfer, manager Kevin Phillips stated via the club website…

“I’m pleased to bring Courtney to the Club. We’ve needed pace in the team and he’s got that in abundance. He’s a typical winger who likes to take people on – he’s a threat and he’ll frighten defenders.”

Writer’s View

Senior has struggled to get minutes for Barnet this season but has a lot of raw ability to offer. His pace is enough to scare defenders and if Phillips can get the best out of him for the month he is there, it will be a great signing.

Adding him to the recent arrivals of Waterfall, Khan, Parkes and Duffus along with the return of Mancini from injury, I think Hartlepool fans will be quietly confident that they will be able to push up the league table.
