“He Was Excellent” – Nathan Jones Full of Admiration for Charlton Athletic Man

Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones has been full of praise for one of his players following the impressive nature of their performance during their 1-1 draw against Stockport County on Saturday.

The Addicks went into Saturday’s League One clash with one win from their previous four matches, though that came against high-flying Birmingham City courtesy of a Matt Godden strike.

Stockport took a 12th-minute lead at the Valley after Aston Villa loanee Louie Barry converted a penalty, following Nick Powell being brought down in the area.

Charlton found their equaliser in the 68th minute through Rarmani Edmonds-Green from close range and despite both sides having numerous chances, neither side were able to find the all-important winner.

However, this hasn’t stopped Nathan Jones from heaping a bucket load of praise on one of his players.

Charlton boss praises Terry Taylor

Following an injury to Conor Coventry, Nathan Jones handed a rare league start to midfielder Terry Taylor and was left delighted with the nature of his performance for Charlton at the weekend.

The 23-year-old’s start at the weekend was his first in League One for over a year and has almost certainly given Nathan Jones a selection headache ahead of their next outing against Barnsley on Tuesday.

Speaking to London News Online after the game, Jones stated…

He was excellent. I left him on when I was taking others off. He was really fluent. He got on the ball, he dictated play against two good midfield players. He was excellent.

He just ran out of legs at the end. He probably made one bad decision at the end where he played it short and could have put it in but apart from that he was impeccable.

Has he done enough to start in mid-week?

Coventry missed the clash against Stockport as a result of picking up five yellow cards, meaning he had and now has served a one-match ban, making him available for the trip to Oakwell.

During the clash against Stockport, Taylor managed to create four chances for Charlton which was the most of any player on the pitch. He also managed four accurate crosses, two duel wins and a passing accuracy of 76% according to FotMob.

The high level of Taylor’s performance is likely to create a big question in the mind of Nathan Jones ahead of their next outing. Taylor’s performance likely warrants a start but Coventry has been the main man in midfield for Charlton Athletic this season.

It’s a headache for Nathan Jones to decide upon but it’s one that he’ll likely be very happy to have.
