Huddersfield Town have announced their new partnership with Lee Grant, who arrives at the John Smith’s Stadium as the club’s new manager for next season.
The Terriers have finished the 2024/25 campaign with a disappointing outcome, only finishing tenth in League One.
Added to this, their run of form in the last games of the season has been poor, seeing the West Yorkshire side lose their last six games of the campaign.
The club sacked manager Michael Duff back in March, as the rest of the season was seen out by interim boss Jonathan Worthington.
Lee Grant joins Huddersfield Town, having previously worked as an assistant manager for Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town side.
Grant to take charge of the upcoming season
When Lee Grant was a player, he made over 500 professional appearances during his playing career, providing him with extensive experience of the English game.
Throughout his career, Grant has had the pleasure of working alongside some of the highest-regarded coaches in football, namely Jose Mourinho, Sean Dyche, Eddie Howe, and Kieran McKenna.
Picking up coaching qualifications at the end of his playing career, the Englishman reunited with Kieran McKenna at Ipswich Town in 2022, following his retirement from playing duties.
The former goalkeeper worked as an assistant manager at Portman Road, seeing the side reach back-to-back promotions from League One into the Premier League.
Following this new appointment, Huddersfield Town owner and Chairman Kevin Nagle said:
“We couldn’t be happier to appoint Lee as Manager and confident with the decision we have made.
“[Grant had] been passionate about the way he has described his way of playing football and shown a desire to succeed and take on this opportunity that propelled him beyond other candidates.”
Grant himself added:
“First and foremost, it’s an incredible honour to be Manager of Huddersfield Town.
“This is an exciting time to be joining the Club, and there is so much potential and opportunity for us going forward, and I couldn’t be more motivated to play my part in that journey.
“My priority is to not only win, but give our amazing supporters a side that they’re proud to represent them and excited to watch.”
A season to forget for Huddersfield Town
The Terriers will want to forget the previous campaign, as a mid-table result was less than expected for the West Yorkshire side.
The side hadn’t been in the league since 2012, and had even experienced the heights of the Premier League since then.
In hopes of a promotion push, Huddersfield brought in new signings during the January transfer window in defender Ruben Roosken from Heracles, and forwards Dion Charles from rivals Bolton, and Joe Taylor from Luton Town.
However, these signings have not made the impact that was desired, as Charles hasn’t yet scored for the Terriers, and Joe Taylor has only scored two goals.
With the 2024/25 season over, the West Yorkshire side now looks for a fresh push for promotion in the new season with their new manager.
A vital season lies ahead for Huddersfield Town and Lee Grant
Simply put, a change of fortunes is needed at the John Smith’s Stadium, as a mid-table result and losses in their last six games are now put to rest.
The new hiring of Lee Grant should be exciting for the Terriers, as in the League One promotion season with Ipswich, the Englishman helped coach a side that scored 101 goals.
Grant himself has already expressed a vision of exciting football, which could reignite goals coming from the likes of Dion Charles, who himself had scored 16 goals in the 2023/24 season with Bolton.
With the ex-goalkeeper’s added experience and teaching from highly regarded coaches, Huddersfield Town fans should be hopeful once again for the upcoming season.
