Huddersfield Town Confident in £2 Million Deal For Former Lincoln City Man

Huddersfield Town are hopeful of signing former Lincoln City striker from Championship newcomers Luton Town on a permanent deal in January for an approximate £2million fee, according to reports.

The Terriers held an interest in the forward throughout the summer and had been hopeful of agreeing a deal, with the player even travelling to Yorkshire for talks before the second-tier side changed their mind.

Fellow League One side Lincoln City had also been hopeful of a deal, with director of football Jez George admitting that due to the timing they were unprepared to risk losing out on a deal.

Huddersfield did move for former Ipswich Town striker Freddie Ladapo after the deadline as a free agent to bolster their attack whilst they continue their pursuit of the Luton Town man.

Taylor spent the first half of last season on loan at Colchester United, before making the step to League One with Lincoln City in the January transfer window. The 21-year-old scored 22 goals (10 for Lincoln, 12 for Colchester) across 46 games before returning to his parent club.

There had been question marks over what the plan would be for the youngster, after Luton found themselves relegated from the Premier League. The natural step would have arguably been to send him on loan to the Championship, but with his parent side competing in that competition it was not viable. He is also not seen as ready for a spot in the first team.

He was put in a similar category as John McAtee by Luton, who was sold to Bolton Wanderers with Taylor remaining at the club as they failed to secure the attacking reinforcements, they needed to allow him to leave.

Will the permanent move go through?

In the report by Alan Nixon, he mentioned that the Championship side are likely sympathetic towards the Terriers due to the deal falling through, which could prove fruitful in the upcoming window. It is likely that there will be other suitors, both for loan deals and permanent deals for the talented forward and it will depend on what Luton want to do with the player going forward. Having sold McAtee will they be willing to sell another one of their young, up and coming stars?
