Huddersfield Town Set to Lose Star to Championship Club

Huddersfield Town

League One Huddersfield Town are on the verge of losing star defender Michal Helik to Championship side Oxford United, according to reports.

The Terriers have been active in the January transfer window as they seek an immediate return to the Championship following their relegation last season. The additions of Luton Town forward Joe Taylor and Bolton Wanderers striker Dion Charles has put them in a good position to challenge in the second half of the season.

However, according to Football Insider, they will have to do it without defender Michal Helik who is on the verge of securing a premature return to the Championship after dropping with Huddersfield Town last season.

Helik has played a key role in the club’s push up the table, appearing 21 times in all competitions whilst also captaining the side through December. He did miss part of the season through injury, but fought back to regain his place following his recovery.

The 29-year-old has previously has spells at Barnsley, Cracovia, and Ruch Chorzow prior to his time at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Key Player for Michael Duff

By losing Helik, the club are not just losing a solid defender and a key part of their squad, they are also losing a leader. The player has had a strong influence on the team and his squad around him as they have pushed back up the table after a difficult start to the season.

To battle against the likes of Birmingham City, Wrexham it will take a strong attitude and resilience which he helps instil in the players around him. Wycombe Wanderers will be in flux after losing their manager providing the Terriers with a potential opportunity to make up ground and push the Blues.

However, the club will need to ensure he is suitably replaced and/or that the members of his squad can deal with the loss sufficiently as the fixtures begin to come thick and fast and fatigue begins to have an impact.
