Huddersfield Town Sign Player with 85 Championship Appearances

Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield Town have signed a midfielder with Premier League and Championship experience.

New Terriers boss, Lee Grant, has wasted no time adding to his side after the transfer market opened on June 1st.

Grant is preparing for his taste of senior management and will look to guide Huddersfield Town back into the Championship.

In the hopes of doing that, Grant has added Marcus Harness on a free transfer from Ipswich Town.

Huddersfield Town sign Marcus Harness

The League One side announced that they had completed the signing of Harness on their website

Speaking to the club’s website, Harness said:

“I got a call from Lee Grant after he got the Manager job at Huddersfield Town, he told me about the Club and the direction that it’s going in and everything going on that I wasn’t aware of.

“I know how he works, so it was a no-brainer for me – I was sold early on. I’m sure he’s going to do a great job here, and I’m going to do my best to try and help that.

“We have had a lot of conversations over the last week, and it seems like a great fit; I’m really excited to be here.”

His new manager, Grant said:

“Marcus has experience of the hard work and sacrifice that is needed to take an upward, ambitious journey such as the one in the making at Huddersfield Town, and he remains hungry to achieve more in his career.

“I look forward to working with Marcus in the coming months, and I’m sure he’s a player that our supporters are going to enjoy watching play.”

Harness will join the club on 1 July, when his contract with recently relegated Premier League side Ipswich Town expires.

How did Harness play in the 2024/25 season?

Harness moved on loan to Championship side Derby County last August. He featured 41 times in the league, starting 26 games and averaging 58 minutes per game.

In his appearances, he received an average rating of 6.76 from Sofascore. He also featured in two Sofascore Championship teams of the week.

Harness chipped in with four goals and three assists in Derby County’s successful fight against relegation.

Creatively, Harness created four big chances and averaged 0.6 key passes per game. He had an average accurate pass rate of 65% and an accurate crosses rate per game of 27%.

Is this a good signing for Grant’s team?

Harness has lots of experience in League One, and higher. In League One alone he has 188 appearances, with 34 goals and 29 assists.

Crucially for Grant, Harness has won a promotion out of the league before. That promotion will likely only be a benefit for Huddersfield because he knows what it takes to get out of the league.

In his last League One season back in the 2022/23 campaign, Harness featured 40 times for Ipswich Town. He scored six times and claimed two assists, receiving an average rating of 6.72 from Sofascore.

If Grant can get the best of Harness, he could play a crucial role in Huddersfield Town returning to the Championship.
