Huddersfield Town to Battle Championship Competition For League Two Star

Huddersfield Town are reportedly set to battle it out with Championship side Swansea City for the signature of League Two goalkeeper David Harrington from Fleetwood Town.

The 24-year-old has impressed so far this season keeping six clean sheets in just 14 fourth tier appearances after joining Fleetwood Town in January 2023, with the player citing the opportunity to play under then-manager Scott Brown as the reason behind the move.

He has appeared in all of the club’s League Two fixtures so far this season, only conceding 15 goals the joint-second lowest amount of goals conceded (14) behind Crewe Alexandra and AFC Wimbledon (15th).

Now, according to Pete O’Rourke clubs higher up the EFL have been alerted to his interest with Huddersfield Town and Swansea City both interested.

Huddersfield’s Promotion Push

Huddersfield Town are pushing for an immediate return to the second tier having dropped out of the division last season alongside Birmingham City and Rotherham United. Unlike the latter, the Terriers are still competing towards the top of the table occupying 5th spot, four points behind the Blues and nine points behind surprise leaders Wycombe Wanderers.

Michael Duff is, according to the report, looking for additional competition between the sticks as they look towards the latter half of the season. At 24 the player is still considered “pre peak” so could be an asset for years to come retaining some value. Fleetwood are keen on keeping the player at the club at least until the summer but with interest hotting up it may be hard to turn down a move.

Swansea on the other hand are looking to the future, and with the player having recently switched allegiances to the Welsh National team he could become a real future prospect for the club and take over from Lawrence Vigouroux in the future.
