Hull City‘s Kasey Palmer has said he would be open to returning to Luton Town next season after a successful spell at the Hatters.
The attacking midfielder was loaned out to Kenilworth Road by Sergej Jakirovic in January with the Jamaican international’s first-team opportunities limited by the form of players like Joe Gelhardt and Amir Hadziahmetovic.
Since his switch to Bedfordshire, Palmer has played a starring role for Luton, with 17 appearances and four goals to his name, and will gear up to play in the EFL Trophy final against Stockport County at the weekend.
Palmer Issues Transfer Plea
Ahead of their short trip down to Wembley, the 29-year-old has discussed his loan stint at Town, and in an interview with Luton Today, strongly hinted he would be open for a return to Jack Wilshere’s side in the summer.
“To be fair there’s been no actual concrete conversations with the club about next season. It depends what happens at Hull, what Hull want to do, what they want to do here, where we are, what we do, I don’t know.
“Hopefully it can kind of find a solution and I can come back here next season, but to be honest I don’t know, there’s no actual concrete answer. For sure, I’m enjoying the players, being in the dressing room, coming in every day, it’s a perfect fit I think.
If it can continue next season then I wouldn’t be against it, but we’ll have to see what happens in the summer. I’m enjoying being here, enjoying the team, enjoying the staff, the fans, it’s just been perfect so far. The aim was to get in the play-offs when I signed, if we fall short I’ll be disappointed, but we’ve just got to keep going.”
The Hatters are on the outside looking in when it comes to finishing in the top six, with them sitting three points behind Stevenage, who have a game in hand on the teams behind them.
Their remaining fixtures see them play four teams in the bottom half of the League One table, including two sides occupying relegation spots, before a final-day showdown against fellow playoff-chasers Bolton Wanderers.
Gelhardt Holds Key To Luton Transfer
With Kasey Palmer looking to move back to Luton Town after this loan spell ends, it would seem straightforward that Hull City will sanction an exit for one of their fringe players.
Palmer has only played for the Tigers nine times in the Championship prior to his move to Kenilworth Road, and with his parent club in a very strong position to finish in the playoffs, many of the current squad look safe in keeping their places next season.
The midfielder’s future in East Yorkshire depends on the decisions they make with their two current loan stars: Leeds United‘s Joe Gelhardt and Manchester United‘s Toby Collyer.
The latter is certain to leave in the summer with the Red Devils viewing him as a future star, and with the exit of Casemiro, the youngster could follow in Kobbie Mainoo’s footsteps and establish himself as a first-team regular.
Gelhardt’s future is much more tricky. Leeds face a relegation battle, and if they cannot stave off the bottom three, then the 23-year-old could become a pivotal part of their plans back in the Championship.
If the Whites manage to stay above the red line, though, it would be feasible that Daniel Farke sanctions an exit for Gelhardt, and Hull would be best placed to take on their star forward permanently, which in turn could facilitate the Hatters to make a move for Palmer.
