Hull City have listed former Nottingham Forest star Scott McKenna as a transfer target as they look to improve their defence.

The Tigers are looking to improve their squad after a mass exodus of players have left the club, and they are looking for proven Championship success players to do that.

Hull are in particular need of a centre-back, after they lost their Championship Team of the Season defender Jacob Greaves in recent weeks after his big-money move to newly-promoted Premier League side Ipswich Town.

With their new massive influx in cash mixed with owners who are not afraid to spend large amounts of money, attracting high-level talent will likely not be an issue.

However, can they attract this former Championship Playoff Winner to help bolster their defence?

McKenna to Join The Tigers?

Nottingham Forest centre-back Scott McKenna is a target for Tim Walter’s Hull City side, according to Hull Live.

The 27-year-old was a massive part of Steve Cooper’s infamous Forest side that won promotion to the Premier League in 2022 via the Playoffs.

He made 51 appearances that season as his defensive work helped Forest’s miraculous turnaround from relegation contention to promotion glory in just a few months under Cooper.

However, since promotion, he has struggled to keep up with both the pace and ability required to be a starting central defender in the top flight.

He fell out of favour during the 2022/23 season, and in the second half of last season, new manager Nuno Espirito Santos decided a loan move would be best for McKenna to play first-team football.

He made 15 appearances for his loan club FC Kobenhavn and showed signs of improvement, but is likely his time with the Premier League side is now over as he looks for a new permanent home away from the City Ground.

He also managed to earn his place at EURO 2024 with Scotland during his loan spell, as he played in every game before they were eliminated in the group stages.

If Hull are able to pull off the signing of the Scotsman, it would be a big coup for Walter and his side. A proven winner at this level and would still be one of the better central defenders in the championship despite his struggles in the Premier League.

However, he will likely have large wage demands and he will still command a fee for his services. This could prove to be a stumbling block for the Tigers as they search for their long-term Greaves replacement.
