Hull City have reportedly set their eyes on a Championship title winner as they look to strengthen their attacking options after Jaden Philogene’s exit.
It’s been a frustrating summer for the Tigers, losing both Philogene and Jacob Greaves to Premier League opposition whilst slipping to a 4-0 defeat against League Two side Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday evening.
However, the club have reportedly set their sights on a new attacking option following Cody Drameh’s transfer was completed.
McAteer to the Tigers?
According to journalist Darren Witcoop, Hull City have their eyes on Leicester City playmaker Kasey McAteer ahead of a potential season-long loan move to the Championship side.
However, the Tigers face competition from fellow Championship side Cardiff City, with McAteer having started for Leicester during their 2-1 victory against Shrewsbury Town yesterday.
How did McAteer fare last season?
After returning to the Foxes following his League One loan stint with Forest Green Rovers, McAteer was thrown in at the deep end after both James Maddison and Harvey Barnes left the club.
Across all competitions, the 22-year-old made a total of 26 appearances for the Foxes, scoring seven goals including a brace during a 2-1 victory against Rotherham United.
McAteer can operate as a right winger or attacking midfielder, further bolstering the versatility and squad depth at Hull City moving forward should a deal be agreed between all parties.
Unfortunately, McAteer missed a large amount of the campaign through injury and is likely to be hoping that he doesn’t suffer the same fate once again during the upcoming campaign.
Is this a good move for Hull?
After losing a crucial player in Philogene, Hull must replace the goal contributions that have been removed from their side moving into the new season.
McAteer isn’t massively experienced in the Championship but did score in the 3-0 win against Preston North End which confirmed Leicester’s title triumph and averaged a goal every four matches.
Though they face competition, McAteer would provide several benefits to Hull’s side should a deal materialise.
