India 3-0 England ODI Series – Player Ratings

Cricket

England were white-washed by India in their ODI series as the hosts proved to be too powerful with bat and ball throughout the series and increased the pressure on England ahead of the Champions Trophy.

After an embarrassing 4-1 defeat in the T20I series, Jos Buttler’s side failed to match India’s high scores across the three games as they suffered defeats in Nagpur, Cuttack and Ahmedabad.

The first game saw England bowled out for 248 and India easily chase it down with more than 11 overs left, thanks to 87 from Shubman Gill.

England’s batters improved in Cuttack and managed to set the home side a target of 305 but once again it was not enough as captain Sharma scored a brilliant 119 off 90 balls and India won by four wickets for the second game running.

Opting to bowl first in Ahmedabad, England’s bowlers were taunted by Gill as he hit 112 off 102 balls and, despite Adil Rashid’s four wickets, India made 356.

England got off to a fast start like normal but their middle-order crumbled again and they were bowled out for 214.

A 7-1 defeat across both series in the tour will apply a lot of pressure on the shoulders of Buttler and head coach Brendon McCullum and a poor Champions Trophy will not ease it at all.

Their first game of the tournament will see them face rivals Australia on Saturday 22 February, before two more group games against Afghanistan and South Africa.

1 match
0 runs @ 0.00
1 wicket @ 54.00, Econ 5.40, BBI 1/54

14 runs @ 14.00, SR 100.00, HS 14

Expensive in the only five overs he bowled and also didn’t contribute much with the bat

England

  1. Adil Rashid – 8/10

3 matches
22 runs @ 7.33, SR 84.61, HS 14
7 wickets @ 27.28, Econ 6.36, BBI 4/64

51 runs @ 51.00, SR 79.68, HS 51
1 wicket @ 18.00, Econ 6.00, BBI 1/18

  1. Tom Banton – 7/10

1 match
38 runs @ 38.00, SR 92.68, HS 38

  1. Ben Duckett – 6/10

3 matches
131 runs @ 43.66, SR 122.42, HS 65, 50s 1

Struggled to convert any of his starts into big scores but still scored the most runs for England in the series. Suffered a groin injury in the final game so hopefully will recover quickly

112 runs @ 37.33, SR 84.84, HS 69, 50s 1
1 wicket @ 72.00, Econ 8.47, BBI 1/47

Returned to the side for the first time since the 2023 World Cup and had a mixed series. Led the way in the second match with 69 but got out for low scores in the other two games. Was expensive with the ball in Ahmedabad but had to be used as their sixth-choice bowler

  1. Jamie Overton – 5/10

6 runs @ 6.00, SR 60.00, HS 6
2 wickets @ 13.50, Econ 5.40, BBI 2/27

  1. Jos Buttler – 4/10

3 matches
92 runs @ 30.66, SR 82.88, HS 52, 50s 1
2 catches

  1. Mark Wood – 4/10

2 matches
9 runs @ 4.50, SR 112.50, HS 9
2 wickets @ 51.00, Econ 6.00, BBI 2/45

4 runs @ 4.00, SR 44.44, HS 2*
3 wickets @ 50.33, Econ 6.66, BBI 2/47

3 matches
92 runs @ 30.66, SR 121.05, HS 43
6 catches

Often made quick starts but failed to turn them into big scores in any of the games. Will be under pressure for his place if he has a poor Champions Trophy

  1. Jofra Archer – 3/10

1 match
21 runs @ 0.00, SR 116.66, HS 21*
1 wicket @ 39.00, Econ 5.57, BBI 1/39

55 runs @ 18.33, SR 84.61, HS 41

Another poor series where he seemed to keep getting out when England needed his batting most and didn’t have any effect with the ball. An innings of 41 in Cuttack helped them over 300

  1. Harry Brook – 3/10

3 matches
50 runs @ 16.66, SR 61.72, HS 31
1 catch

Disappointing again as he failed to produce a big innings despite playing some good-looking shots
