Ipswich Town Bolster Survival Hopes with New Arrival

Premier League strugglers Ipswich Town have completed the signing of Aston Villa winger Jaden Philogene on a permanent deal.

The Tractor Boys sit 17th in the Premier League, level on points with Wolverhampton Wanderers. The recently promoted side have not shied away from spending this season, reportedly investing over £100 million into the squad.

Ipswich Town Secure Their Man

The club confirmed the permanent signing on their official website today. The winger joins his new club for a reported fee of £20m + add-ons and has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract. Philogene is said to have been a “long-term target” of current Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna.

Ipswich reportedly rivalled Villa for his signature in the summer. McKenna will likely hope his new man can push his side on in their fight for survival. The new boy joins Ben Godfrey at the club this window, who has already signed on loan from Italian side Atalanta this month.

Preparing for the Championship?

Jaden Philogene was re-signed by former club Aston Villa from Championship side, Hull City in the summer transfer window. Since signing for Villa, the winger has only started twice in the Premier League.

He also failed to directly contribute to a goal this season, struggling to adapt to life in the Premier League. However, he impressed last season in the Championship for Hull City, bagging 12 goals and six assists for the Tigers. The forward’s form aided Hull’s play-off push, before eventually missing out to West Bromwich Albion on the final day. The 22-year-old has yet to impress at the Premier League level but may thrive in a new environment.

Ipswich Town have a tough run of fixtures coming up. After welcoming Brighton today they face back-to-back fixtures against Manchester City and Liverpool before they play bottom placed Southampton in a must win encounter.
