Championship side Ipswich Town are set to welcome back a returning forward, following the conclusion of his loan spell at League Two Cheltenham Town.

Kieran McKenna’s side are pushing for promotion to the Premier League as they attempt to hunt down Middlesbrough and Coventry City in the Championship title race.

Frank Lampard’s leaders have slipped up, only picking up five points from their last five games, whilst Boro have only secured four in the same time. The Tractor Boys on the other hand are hitting form at the right time, and are without defeat in their last four games.

With the January transfer window now well under way, the club will be forced into making decisions on some of their players.

Cheltenham Town forward Tommy Taylor Returns to Ipswich Town

League Two side Cheltenham Town secured the signing of Tommy Taylor in the summer transfer window. However, his spell in the fourth tier has not gone to plan.

The 20-year-old only started one game in the league, and was unable to contribute a goal in 12 attempts. Seven of his appearances were for less than ten minutes of game time.

His only goal for the Robins came in the EFL Trophy game against Tottenham Hotspur U21, where he scored one and assisted one in the 2-2 draw, before converting in the penalty shootout.

According to League Two journalist of the year finalist Jon Palmer, he returns to Ipswich with just 158 league minutes to his name as Steve Cotterill looks to improve his side’s fortunes in the second half of the season.

Can Steve Cotterill Push on with Cheltenham Town?

Steve Cotterill came into a club with confidence rock bottom. They appeared to be sleepwalking into a relegation battle with little hope of survival. However, despite not everything going to plan for the experienced boss, he has recorded 11 wins in 20 games, whilst also reaching the third round of the FA Cup.

His return of eight victories in 15 games have put some distance between the club and the drop, with the January transfer window now a good chance to improve his side.

They unfortunately lost Hakeeb Adelakun to Doncaster Rovers, but they have been able to bring in George Nurse from League Two rivals Shrewsbury Town as they look to bolster their squad.

It is clear that the positive impact of Cotterill’s management could be a vitally important factor when attracting new players to the club this window. With a few weeks left, there may well be more incomings before February’s deadline.
