Ipswich Town Look to Complete £15 Million Goalkeeper Deal

Ipswich Town are looking to continue their spending spree this summer in their first season back in the Premier League. According to reports, they are set to complete a deal for a Championship goalkeeper, thought to be worth around £15 million.

The newly promoted side are set to complete a £15 million deal to bring Burnley goalkeeper Arijanet Muric back to the Premier League this season after he was relegated with the Clarets under the leadership of Vincent Kompany last season.

It comes after the Tractor Boys led a surprise charge to automatic promotion from the second tier last campaign, with Kieran McKenna securing back-to-back promotions with the side at Portman Road. The success of McKenna last season led to question marks surrounding his future at the club, with sides like Manchester United once targeting him for their managerial position before the English boss signed a new contract with the club.

Is the goalkeeper position a priority for Ipswich Town?

A new man between the sticks looks to be one of the most important for Ipswich this transfer window, with just two senior goalkeepers part of their squad currently, sharing six appearances between them for McKenna’s side. Ipswich Town look to make sure they reinforce everywhere possible this window as Alan Nixon reported via his Patreon they are set to complete a deal for the Burnley goalkeeper.

Recruiting Muric would mean they have a keeper who has experience in the top flight, albeit 10 appearances. Still, it would be more than they currently have after the departure of last season’s number one shot-stopper, Vaclav Hladky, who departed the club after he turned down a new deal with the Premier League new boys.

Ipswich Town to leave Burnley with a dilemma?

The departure of Muric could leave the Clarets with a dilemma in the goalkeeping department should Ipswich Town complete this deal. Bailey Peacock-Farrell departed for Birmingham City this summer, while James Trafford could also be on the move after signing from Manchester City last summer.

Trafford has been the subject of numerous clubs in the top flight, such as Newcastle United this summer. If Trafford and Muric were to depart this summer, it would leave former Leyton Orient goalkeeper Laurence Vigouroux as the only senior option at their disposal at Turf Moor.

Former Fulham boss Scott Parker has taken over from Vincent Kompany, who departed for Bayern Munich following their relegation. While he already has the insurmountable task of guiding the club to an immediate return to the Premier League, it looks to be made all the more harder if they are to be targeting a number of options for one position this summer
