AC Milan is currently monitoring former Leeds United, and Burnley striker Chris Wood, according to reports. Wood, who currently plays for Nottingham Forest and is in the last year of his contract, has caught the eye this season with a series of impressive performances, and the Italian side, according to reports, is said to be keeping tabs on the 31-year-old’s contract situation with Nottingham Forest.
According to the Yorkshire Post in an article by Tom Coates, AC Milan is among the host of clubs watching his situation at Nuno Espirito Santo’s team with interest with a view of possibly luring him on a free transfer once his contract expires.
Wood’s Current Situation at Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest has been the surprise package of the Premier League so far, and they have managed this overachievement largely thanks to Chris Wood’s goals. Wood has been in phenomenal form for Forest so far this season, plundering 11 goals in 19 matches so far to help propel Nottingham Forest to second in the Premier League table.
Wood’s Recent Career Recap
The New Zealand international has been a journeyman for most of his career, playing for several clubs. The most recent of those have been Leeds, Burnley, Newcastle before Nottingham Forest.
The hard-nosed, old-fashioned center forward after bouncing around several clubs, made a name for himself at Leeds United, tearing up the Championship and netting 44 goals in 88 games for the club. From there, he moved to Burnley, and another prolific spell followed as he led the line well for the Sean Dyche-managed Clarets, who even managed a 7th-place finish while he led the line in the 2017/2018 season.
He finished with 53 goals in 165 games for Burnley, playing for five seasons at Turf Moor. Afterward, he joined Newcastle United and spent two underwhelming seasons there as a backup striker, scoring only five goals in 39 appearances over two half seasons before being loaned to Nottingham.
After a false start where he scored only once in seven appearances for them, Nottingham Forest kept the faith in him and signed him for E15 million. He rewarded the faith richly, netting 15 goals in 35 appearances last season.
This year, however, he has taken his game to new heights and, at the age of 33, is on course for his best season in the topflight. With 11 goals in 19 matches, he is the fifth-highest goal scorer in the Premier League currently and is just three shy of his personal record in the league.
He also won the Premier League Player of the Month in November becoming the first-ever Nottingham Player and also the first New Zealander to ever do so. His performances have gained him a vast array of admirers, and if He and Forest do not agree to terms, AC Milan, an Italian juggernaut of epic proportions, is one of the many suitors who would love to welcome him.
