League One Clubs In Chase For Liverpool Defender

Liverpool defender Rhys Williams has had a tough time of late, with troubled loan spells away from Anfield in previous seasons, but could a loan exit be on the cards?

Some of Liverpool’s younger prospects or sporadic players have already hit the headlines in the transfer market, either on loan or permanently, with Adam Lewis securing a move to Morecambe and Calvin Ramsay choosing to spend his season at Wigan Athletic.

The club’s next player to exit Anfield, either permanently or temporarily, could be 23-year-old centre-back Rhys Williams, who according to The Athletic, several teams in League One are keen on his services.

It is yet to be confirmed who the clubs are but a move could be on the cards to help give him game time for the forthcoming season.

Who is Rhys Williams?

Williams has been a player at Anfield since the age of ten and became an instant winner in 2019, as he was part of the team that won the FA Youth Cup against Manchester City.

He has appeared in multiple loan spells at the likes of Kidderminster Harriers, Swansea City, Blackpool and Port Vale.

During his best football league loan spell at Blackpool in the Championship back during the 2022-23 season, he achieved a 53.8% win rate in overall duels and aerial duels, with 17 interceptions during his 17 league appearances for the Seasiders.

Where could the Liverpool man’s next destination be?

Williams has demonstrated strong physical traits in the back line whenever he has featured but is likely to be in desperate need of first-team minutes.

In terms of which League One clubs could benefit from his services, a return to Bloomfield Road could be a great deal for all parties.

Alongside Blackpool, there are other sides in the league that need a central defender, with Shrewsbury Town and Reading in the most need for a player in that position.
