League One Team Of The Week

It was a weekend of highs and lows across League One, with Cardiff City regaining winning form and Bolton Wanderers looking to close in on second-placed Lincoln City. Meanwhile, three of the four play-off contenders stumbled, and the fight to avoid relegation is beginning to take a clearer shape.

GK – Ted Cann – Rotherham United

Millers goalkeeper Ted Cann was vital in their 1–0 win over Plymouth Argyle, producing a composed and assured display between the posts. His command of the penalty area and a series of timely interventions ensured Rotherham United maintained a much-needed clean sheet and secured an important three points in their ongoing fight to move clear of the drop zone.

RB – Perry Ng – Cardiff City

The 29-year-old continued his impressive campaign with another accomplished display as Cardiff City secured a routine 4–0 away victory at Doncaster Rovers. Operating from right-back, Ng’s contribution this season in League One now stands at five goals and four assists, underlining his consistent influence at both ends of the pitch.

CB – Dylan Lawlor – Cardiff City

Lawlor delivered yet another standout performance, registering a goal and an assist away at Doncaster Rovers, including a superbly taken solo effort that highlighted his composure and technical quality. Touted as a player capable of no doubt progressing to a higher level, the 20-year-old centre-back is widely regarded as a significant part of the future of Welsh football.

CB – Carl Piergianni – Stevenage

In contrast to the modern, ball-playing profile of Lawlor, Piergianni represents a more traditional but equally effective centre-back. The experienced defender was dominant throughout Stevenage’s 2-1 win over play-off rivals Stockport County, scoring his third goal of the season, a result that reignited their play-off ambitions.

LB – George Johnston – Bolton Wanderers

The 27-year-old Scot scored his first goal of the season in a vital win against Exeter City, strengthening Bolton’s push for promotion. The former Feyenoord youngster combined defensive solidity with a timely attacking contribution in an assured performance away from home.

CM – Jonathan Russell – Mansfield Town

The Barnsley loanee scored both of Mansfield Town’s goals in their 2-2 draw with AFC Wimbledon at the weekend, delivering an effective contribution from midfield. Russell’s energy and timing in the box proved difficult to contain, with his brace underlining his growing importance to Nigel Clough’s team.

CM – Coalan Boyd-Munce – Wycombe Wanderers

The 26-year-old Irishman was instrumental in Wycombe Wanderers statement win over Burton Albion at Adams Park, producing a commanding midfield display. Boyd-Munce capped his performance with a outsanding 25-yard stunner and an assist, showcasing an outstanding level of tempo and control throughout.

LW – Rob Street – Lincoln City

Street capitalised on a defensive error for a straightforward finish, but once again demonstrated his broader influence in Lincoln City’s forward line. Frequently deployed on the wing this season, it is in his natural role as a central striker where his movement and leadership have been pivotal, with the Imps looking to seal promotion after seven years in the third tier.

ST – Sam Dalby – Bolton Wanderers

The former Wrexham forward delivered a goal and an assist in an emphatic 5–1 victory away at Exeter City, bringing his season tally to nine. Dalby’s physical presence and link-up play were central to the performance, ensuring Bolton Wanderers remain firmly in contention for a top-two finish.

ST – David McGoldrick – Barnsley

Now 38 and playing under former teammate Conor Hourihane, David McGoldrick once again underlined his enduring quality with a hat-trick away at Leyton Orient at the weekend. The performance was a reminder of the intelligence and composure in front of goal that have defined his career.

RW – Johnny Kenny – Bolton Wanderers

The 22-year-old Celtic loanee made a strong statement in Bolton Wanderers’ emphatic 5–1 victory against Exeter City, registering both his first goal and first assist since arriving on loan from Celtic in January. Kenny’s pace and movement added a new dimension to the Trotters’ attack, and his contributions were instrumental as Bolton looked to close the gap on second-placed Lincoln City in the race for automatic promotion.
