In another crucial week of League One action, Lincoln City and Cardiff City continued their push toward the Championship places, while Huddersfield Town climbed back into the playoff spots. At the other end of the table, the misery continues to mount for the division’s bottom sides, who are increasingly desperate for immediate results as the season reaches a decisive stage.
Here are the standout performers from another dramatic weekend.

GK – Sam Tickle – Wigan Athletic
Wigan’s academy graduate Sam Tickle produced yet another commanding performance to underline why he continues to attract interest from higher divisions. His assured display was key in a vital 2-0 victory over play-off hopefuls Bradford City, helping the Latics climb out of the relegation zone after a difficult season.
RB – Tendayi Darikwa – Lincoln City
Lincoln City skipper Tendayi Darikwa was once again a standout as the Imps secured an impressive 3-1 win against Stockport County. A tactical tweak from Michael Skubala gave the 34-year-old greater freedom to push forward, which he capitalised on by scoring a deflected effort to send the Imps ahead late on.
CB – Paudie O’Connor – Reading
Since joining from Lincoln City in the summer, Paudie O’Connor has enjoyed a mixed first season at Reading, but he showed his quality in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Plymouth Argyle. The 28-year-old netted a well-taken goal and delivered solid defensive work as the Royals maintained their push for the play-offs.
CB – Jack Simpson – Leyton Orient
Simpson proved vital for Leyton Orient in their hard-fought 2-1 victory over Peterborough United, a result that keeps the O’s clear of the relegation scrap. The 29-year-old centre-back contributed with a goal and produced an excellent all-round display at the back.
LB – Stephen McLaughlin – Mansfield Town
Veteran left-back Stephen McLaughlin delivered a superb performance as Mansfield Town fought out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Barnsley. The Irishman added to his season’s tally with his third goal, helping the Stags continue their run of wins after a recent stint of poor form.
CM – Robbie Gotts – Doncaster Rovers
Leeds United academy product Robbie Gotts was hugely influential in Doncaster Rovers’ 2-1 win over relegation-threatened Blackpool. The midfielder provided assists for both Owen Bailey and Hakeeb Adelakun in a dominant showing from the heart of the midfield.
CM – Alex Robertson – Cardiff City
The 22-year-old Australian Alex Robertson has been a consistent performer for Cardiff City all season, and he shone again in their 4-0 thrashing of Exeter City. He capped a fine display with a beautifully curled goal from outside the 18-yard box that helped the Bluebirds extend their advantage over third-placed Bolton Wanderers.
LM – Kasey Palmer – Luton Town
Since arriving from Hull City in January, Kasey Palmer has quickly made an impact at Luton Town, scoring his second goal in a tight 2-1 victory over fellow play-off hopefuls Wycombe Wanderers. The 29-year-old Jamaican’s performance once more highlighted the quality that has seen him operate at higher levels for much of his career.
CAM – Rubin Colwill – Cardiff City
Cardiff City academy graduate Rubin Colwill is enjoying his most productive season yet in front of goal. His brace in the emphatic 4-0 win over Exeter City showcased the exciting talent of the young Welshman, with both strikes taken with real composure and quality.
RM – Kyran Lofthouse – Burton Albion
Former Oxford United man Kyran Lofthouse continues to be one of Burton Albion’s most important players, delivering another standout display in their 2-0 victory over Northampton Town. The versatile 25-year-old not only scored a goal but also posed a real threat going forward whilst remaining defensively sound, piling further pressure on the visitors’ relegation worries.
ST – Sam Nombe – Rotherham United
Nombe produced a clinical performance in Rotherham United’s entertaining 2-2 draw against promotion-chasing Bolton Wanderers. The forward netted a brace with two superbly taken finishes as the Millers battled to avoid a first drop into the fourth tier in 13 years
