Norwich City have started the Championship campaign in a mixed vein of form after some high-profile departures this summer. The Canaries are still active in the market, however, as a deal for a League Two forward is on the verge of completion.

Liam Manning’s side have lost both of their matches at Carrow Road so far, but did beat Portsmouth at Fratton Park, in addition to winning in the first round of the Carabao Cup at Watford.

Norwich City Continue Recruitment Drive After Big Money Departures

The Championship side seen star player and talisman Borja Sainz depart this summer as the Spaniard joined Porto for an eight-figure fee. This was in addition to Jonathan Rowe leaving on a permanent basis following his loan spell with Ligue 1 side Marseille last season.

This left the club in a position to re-invest in the playing squad, and they brought in several players for fees in excess of seven figures. In attack, Norwich City have added Mathias Kvistgaarden from Brondby, Papa Amadou Diallo from FC Metz and Jovon Makama from League One side Lincoln City.

Norwich City have also retained the services of Josh Sargent, with the forward starting the campaign with three goals in as many matches. However, it appears their drive for reinforcements in attack is not yet complete, as a move for a promising forward currently playing in League Two is close to completion.

Swindon Town Man Set For Championship Switch

Botan Ameen has played 19 times for Swindon Town since breaking into the team last season, scoring two goals for the League Two outfit. At just 18 years old, he is an excellent prospect and scored his first goal in the EFL when coming as a late substitute in a 4-0 win over Grimsby Town last season.

His rise to prominence has not gone unnoticed, with Pete O’Rourke reporting that the forward is set for a medical at Norwich City to complete a permanent move to the Championship club.

It is unclear if the player will get regular football with the Canaries, having made both of his appearances this campaign from the substitutes bench for Ian Holloway’s side. However, Ameen has displayed excellent ability on the ball, ranking first at Swindon Town with 1.6 successful dribbles per game in 2024/25.

It may be that he is seen as an alternative option to the regular starters, and the forward could be allowed to shine from the bench as he has done at Swindon Town. It would be a major jump for him to become a regular at this level, considering his limited experience.

Ameen is one to watch over the coming campaigns, and if he is given the opportunity to shine at Carrow Road, Norwich City may have a star on their hands.
