League One Huddersfield Town appointed Lee Grant prior to the start of the 2025/26 season. The role was his first as a first team manager, something that League One Lowdown host and expert Seb Jones claims is the cause for the Terrier’s inconsistent form.
Huddersfield Town sit 8th in the League One table with defeats against Cardiff City and Luton Town in the last three games. Pressure has been on manager Grant for much of the season, with some fans bemoaning his playing style and inability to get the best from his talented squad.
The Terriers boast some of the best attacking talent in the division, including Alfie May and Joe Taylor but have now lost more games (8) than any other side in the top half of the table.
Lee Grant’s Inexperience the Cause of Inconsistent Huddersfield Town Form
Speaking on the latest episode of our weekly League One Lowdown podcast. Expert Seb Jones was asked whether he thought Lee Grant could be in trouble as we enter the busy Christmas period.
“Well, I think so. In terms of Huddersfield and their inconsistency at the minute. Obviously, we knew at the summer when they appointed Lee Grant, it was his first professional managerial appointment, first time he’s ever been a manager.”
Whilst it is accepted that the form is down to Grant, Seb claims that this should have been expected as he gets settled into his change of role.
“I think we were always going to get that when you do appoint someone that’s never had a manager was well before. But for me it is that inconsistency.”
“They obviously started the season really well, then they dipped off a little bit and then the results were back on the mend and now sort of they’re going through a bit of an inconsistent patch.”
“Not won since the middle of November. Seems to be a bit concerning that they can put up a good fight in the match against Cardiff but they were just beaten by the side was just better quality.”
“Every time Cardiff came forward they looked more like scoring at the time.”
“Huddersfield didn’t really although they did work it really nicely from a couple of set piece routines but then again they couldn’t finish off so it’s all good doing all this work but when you can’t finish it’s a bit of a concern. So yeah, definitely
inconsistencies. I don’t think it’s a major concern.”
“I think it’s expected with Lee Grant and you know it being his first manager position, but something to keep an eye on.”
“You know in only the short start of the season. We’ve already seen Huddersfield sort of eb and flow in terms of their results and they’re on a bit of a drought at the minute in terms of looking for that next win and hopefully it’ll come as soon as possible. “
