Leeds United Braced For Offers For Defender

Leeds United News

Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell is set to be the subject of a transfer bidding war from multiple Championship sides, according to journalist Alan Nixon via his Patreon.

The 21-year-old is set to depart Elland Road during the January transfer window and has already attracted the interest of numerous clubs.

Cresswell has been limited to just six appearances for Leeds United so far this season, with two of those arriving in cup competitions. He’s started both of those matches but in terms of league minutes, he’s earned just one start, playing a total of 127 minutes.

Daniel Farke’s side have placed a £4 million price tag on the England U21s international, alerting the likes of Blackburn Rovers and Cresswell’s former side Millwall who are reportedly preparing big cash bids to land the central defender.

The defender is a product of the Leeds United youth setup, making appearances throughout the U18s and U21s. Since making the move into the first team, Cresswell has made 13 appearances. However, it was his spell at Millwall that allowed him to catch the eye, scoring five goals in 30 appearances for the football club.

Leeds United are currently fourth in the Championship after 27 league games and are pushing towards automatic promotion back to the Premier League. The club are currently seven points behind Ipswich Town in second and have picked up form in recent weeks.

Cresswell has earned 14 caps for England’s U21s and is under contract at Elland Road until 2027.

Writer’s View

Cresswell is a talented defender and I’m surprised that Leeds United haven’t taken the chance to utilize him in their squad for the first half of the season.

At just £4 million, I’d expect numerous other Championship sides to take an interest in his services. Both Middlesbrough and Coventry City have also been credited with an interest previously, but whether they renew that remains to be seen.
