Leeds United Confirm Signing Of Serie A Star Defender

Leeds United

Leeds United have finally confirmed the signing of Udinese centre-back Jaka Bijol, with the Slovenian international signing a deal that keeps him at Elland Road until 2030.

After gaining promotion back to the Premier League after a two-year hiatus, Leeds United now look to build a squad that is ready to compete in the top flight.

With Lukas Nmecha already signing for the club, it is clear that Leeds want to compete this season, rather than struggling down the bottom of the table like last season’s promoted sides.

They have now added a second signing to their ranks, with an experienced centre back joining the fold for the 2025/26 season.

Leeds Confirm Bijol Signing

Leeds United have signed Slovenian centre back Jaka Bijol from Udinese for an undisclosed fee, the club have announced.

The 26-year-old enjoyed a brilliant season in Serie A last campaign, making 37 appearances for Udinese as they finished 12th in the league.

Bijol will bring a wealth of ability and experience, which will be crucial for the Whites this season in the Premier League.

A Good Signing For Leeds?

Bijol, on paper, looks like a brilliant signing for Leeds, with the defender coming very highly rated from Italy.

He enjoyed arguably the best season of his career last year, with many labelling him as one of the best defensive talents that Serie A has to offer.

If he can hit the ground running in the same fashion in Yorkshire, the pairing of him with either Pascal Struijk, Ethan Ampadu, or Joe Rodon could be a very good start to Daniel Farke’s defensive unit for their upcoming campaign.

More To Be Done For Leeds?

Although Bijol is a brilliant signing for the Whites, they will likely need to make a number of extra signings to ensure they are Premier League-ready.

However, many teams in recent times have spent a lot of money upon promotion and made entirely new squads, which has not proven to be a successful idea.

If they can find a balance between keeping the core of their squad whilst improving their weak spots, Leeds could enjoy a successful first season back in the Premier League.
