Championship side Leeds United are likely to fail in their attempts to secure a return of former Cheltenham Town and Swansea City defender Joe Rodon from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
Daniel Farke’s side had been hopeful of convincing the 26-year-old who spent last season on loan at Elland Road to return for another season, on a permanent deal.
However, according to reports from Football Insider, the player is now likely to join a Premier League side.
The promoted trio of Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton are all interested in securing the player, reportedly available for £10 million with his parent club keen to offload the player.
The centre-back has a contract with the Premier League side, however, he is expected to be sold this summer.
Leeds are unlikely to be able to meet the valuation and having to contend with another season in the second tier will mean there may be some difficult decisions made to balance the books. Meaning that any pull they potentially did have will be overridden by simple finances.
Rodon has previously had spells at Swansea City, Stade Rennais, and Cheltenham Town before his move to Spurs and then Leeds United.
A disappointment for Leeds United?
Leeds narrowly missed out on promotion back to the topflight and their key target for this season will be to improve on what they had to offer in their last campaign.
Joe Rodon played a pivotal role, appearing 50 times across all competitions including every minute of the club’s play-off campaign.
He was also part of the team that reached the fifth round of the FA Cup before they were knocked out by Chelsea 3-2.
To replace such a vital player in the side will take up a huge amount of resources and time, which could have better been spent on improving the squad.
