Leeds United Midfielder Set For League Two Switch

Leeds United

Leeds United are currently battling at the top of the Championship, but with that in mind they are set to allow one of their players to make a temporary exit this month.

Daniel Farke’s side have bounced back from their play-off final heartbreak last season to lead the way at the top of the Championship ahead of Sheffield United, Burnley and Sunderland in the race for Premier League promotion.

The club itself have been treated to plenty of talented players over the years, especially some of their academy graduates including Tottenham’s Archie Gray as the most recent example.

According to a report from the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United are set to allow academy prospect Charlie Crew to depart the Championship side on loan to League Two promotion chasers Doncaster Rovers until the end of the season.

What could he add to his new side?

The 18-year-old hasn’t featured for Leeds United in the Premier League 2 since November and has been limited to just four appearances so far this season.

However, he did make his Championship debut in early November during a fixture against Plymouth Argyle and that new found confidence could allow him to kick on moving into the second half of the campaign.

Crew is a central midfielder by trait who likes to control play, distribute passes and get forward from the midfield position, playing more as a number eight rather than a number six.

This would strengthen Doncaster’s ability to control matches in the centre of the pitch, and give them an additional creative edge in the final third.

Is this a good move for all parties?

Doncaster Rovers currently occupy the final play-off spot in League Two and find themselves just three points behind Crewe Alexandra in second.

They are a local club to Leeds, meaning the youngster won’t need to relocate which reduces his chances of suffering home sickness, especially as it’s his first EFL loan stint away from the club.

Aside from Luke Molyneux, Doncaster haven’t had another midfielder currently that’s contributed more than two assists in League Two this season, meaning the addition of Crew could provide a huge attacking boost moving into the second half of the campaign.
