Following an impressive 2024/25 season in the Championship, in which they accumulated 100 points and earned promotion, Leeds United have added a lot of physicality to their side.
The likes of Anton Stach and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have arrived in Yorkshire, making the Peacocks one of the most imposing sides in the Premier League. But reports are saying that Daniel Farke is looking to complete his squad by adding a more technical player to the fray at Elland Road.
Leeds United Monitoring Facundo Buonanotte Situation
In collaboration with Uriel Lugt, Ben Jacobs is reporting that the Yorkshire giants are monitoring the situation of Brighton and Hove Albion youngster Facundo Buonanotte, who may become available on loan in the final days of the window.
The 20-year-old is not the Whites’ sole target as, for much of the window, it looked like he would secure a move to a club that could offer him European football. Just over a month ago, the youngster was heavily linked with Borussia Dortmund and Lyon.
Leeds are yet to make their opening bid for the Argentina international, but Jacobs notes that they are “prepared to move” if the opportunity becomes available.
Buonanotte has not appeared in either of Brighton’s matchday squads this season, though it remains to be seen if he will be given an opportunity to impress in the Seagulls’ upcoming Carabao Cup fixture.
Would Buonanotte Play Regularly For Leeds?
Some Leeds fans may be concerned by the fact that their club is targeting a player who only started 14 times for a relegated side last season, but Buonanotte has more than enough quality to thrive at Elland Road.
The youngster was one of Leicester City’s standout players in the opening weeks of last campaign under the management of Steve Cooper. He scored four of his six goals at the King Power Stadium when the Welshman was in charge, but struggled for regular minutes once Ruud van Nistelrooy was appointed as manager.
Although the Peacocks have employed a 4-3-3 formation for their first two games of the campaign, Farke has primarily used a 4-2-3-1 system whilst at Elland Road.
It is likely that he reverted to a 4-3-3 as he does not think he has enough quality in attacking midfield at the moment. Brenden Aaronson, despite producing a respectable goal return last season, was generally seen as one of the weaker links in the Leeds team.
Signing Buonanotte would allow the German manager to revert to his preferred formation, as the youngster has already proven his quality at Premier League level for both Brighton and Leicester. He simply needs the opportunity to start week in, week out.
