Oliver Skipp has reportedly expressed his interest in moving away from Tottenham this summer in search of regular game time ahead of the new campaign.
Numerous clubs including Leicester City and Leeds United have expressed an interest in signing the midfielder according to various reports.
A struggle for regular game time
Former Spurs manager, Mauricio Pochettino, was the man to bring Skipp through to the senior team after impressing in the academy.
Skipp made his debut against London rivals, West Ham, in the League Cup back in October of 2018, helping his side to a derby victory at just 18 years of age.
However, the 23-year-old has failed to build upon his impressive start at Tottenham with the best spell of his senior career coming away from Tottenham whilst on loan to Daniel Farke’s Norwich City team.
Farke is reportedly pushing for Leeds to sign Skipp, but competition makes a move unlikely
TeamTalk have reported that Skipp’s former manager while he was on loan at Norwich City in 2020/21 is keen for his new team, Leeds United, to sign the defensive midfielder with the Whites currently light in that area following the sales of Glen Kamara and Archie Gray.
At Norwich, Skipp quickly became a fan favourite with Canaries fans feeling the pain of the saying ‘never fall in love with a loan player’ after Tottenham kept the midfielder for the following seasons despite Norwich wanting the young midfielder permanently.
However, a reunition between Skipp and Farke is a long shot after the report claimed that plenty of Premier League sides hold an interest in the Tottenham academy graduate with Spurs open to a permanent sale, and less willing for a loan, likely removing Leeds from the race.
Skipp wants regular game time
A move for Skipp is likely to be one that guarantees the player, who only started five Premier League games last season, regular game time.
The expectation comes following Football.London’s report in late May stated that the 23-year-old is keen to experience regular game time, much like he did during his Norwich loan, and is willing to exit Tottenham this summer if necessary.
It’s understandable that the young midfielder feels it’s time for a change in his career now after failing to impose himself in the first-team set-up at Tottenham.
The arrivals of young midfield duo, Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray, this summer also make it likely that Skipp’s game time will be even more limited than it was last campaign.
Steve Cooper’s side need midfield reinforcements
Tottenham’s Oliver Skipp is reportedly of interest to newly promoted Leicester City who are attempting to rebuild their squad for their return to the top-flight following manager, Enzo Maresca, departure to Chelsea along with the Foxes star player, Keirnan Dewsbury-Hall who joined the Spaniard in the switch to London.
Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Oliver Skipp is a player that Leicester City are planning a potential move for this summer, with Tottenham believed to be open to selling the player.
Any fee received for Skipp would presumably coin Tottenham a sizable sum, which is only made more attractive by the fact a sale would count as 100% profit for the club’s PSR record.
Should Skipp make the move upwards to Leicester, he would be welcomed by former Tottenham teammate, Harry Winks, who moved to the Midlands last season, helping them achieve an immediate return to the Premier League.
