Leicester City have their sights set on 21-year-old Chilean winger Dario Osorio, currently starring for Danish Superligaen giants, FC Midtjylland.
According to Alan Nixon, Osorio has been on the radar of the one time Premier League champions for some time and they plan to submit an offer of up to £10 million to secure his services.
Dario Osorio is a full Chilean international playing in a top-15 league, per UEFA coefficient rankings.
This should ensure he has no trouble with current work permit requirements if signed by ‘The Foxes’.
Leicester City’s high potential target
Dario Osorio was brought through at 23-time Chilean champions Universidad de Chile. In his first season he wasted no time netting seven in 27 appearances.
The winger is one of the bright lights in an ageing and struggling Chilean set-up who sit ninth in their World Cup qualifying group.
In recent years he has been linked to Europe’s elite, like Liverpool and Real Madrid, showing his talents are worthy of grabbing attention.
He is an elite ball carrier and does not hesitate to take on his opponent with close control. Most comfortable on the right-flank, he likes to cut inside onto his stronger left-foot to create chances or to take a shot.
This season, he is completing 2.57 dribbles per-90 in the Superligaen. This number remains consistent in European competition where he is completing 2.06 dribbles per-90 in the Europa League.
He does have a tendency to exclusively use his stronger left-foot, opting at times to use the outside of his stronger foot instead of using his right.
This trait can lead to defenders closing down angles to cut inside, knowing he is less confident when running to the line.
What can Osorio add to Leicester?
Leicester City during 2024/25 have lacked creativity. Facundo Buonanotte, on loan from Brighton, has been responsible for the most big chances and chances created this season.
However, the Argentina international has not played more than 20 minutes for Ruud Van Nistlerooy since January 15th.
Given he will be heading back to his parent club at the end of this campaign, Leicester will have to replace him on the right flank.
Osorio, will add that creativity which will be missing. At present, Jordan Ayew and Bobby Reid have been deputising on the right to little effect.
Leicester City, in general, have been poor in attacking areas. Wilfred Ndidi is the top assist maker at the King Power Stadium, and he has been playing as a double pivot under Van Nistlerooy.
Osorio could represent a statement of intent for ‘The Foxes’, a big money signing in what will likely be a season in the Championship will show they intend to make it back to the Premier League and stay there.
Leicester City’s survival hopes
The chances to sign Osorio will not disappear if Leicester City are relegated to the Championship but there is a lot of work to do.
They will need to find form to try and leapfrog Ipswich Town and Wolves, however, at present they only need three points to escape the relegation zone with 13 games to do it.
